Florida is the only state that legitimately needs an explanation for simply existing

Born and raised Florida man here.

Video is mostly accurate. However, I’d like to note that people from the Miami-Dade area think their area is representative of the whole state, whereas the literal rest of the state (which is the massive majority) see the Miami-Dade area as something completely different.. which it is.

My great grandfather was from Florida. At age 17 he ran away, joined the Navy, and fought on D-Day.
He would rather risk his life than live in Florida.

The reason why theres so many florida man articles is because unlike most other states florida allows the press to publish about criminal offenses, even the petty and insane. A lot of states try to brush a lot of that stuff under the radar. If you look at conviction rates florida is really no different than the rest of the us, just more honest about whats going on. Honestly more states, countries and governments should join the trend... I bet for a fact wed see a lot of weird stuff from all over the world. I know this even because Ive heard and seen weird stuff all over.

Did you guys know that Jacksonville could have been Hollywood? Jacksonville used to be home to lots of movie studios during the silent movie era, but eventually these studios relocated to Hollywood. But what's really cool is that Norman Film studios gave black actors positive roles, and it is still standing.

Regarding that bridge connecting the Keys, the first bridge built connecting the Keys was for RAIL! Yes, at one point in time, you were able to take a train all the way to Key West from 1912 to 1935. There was a year-round coach and sleeping car service between NYC and Key West called the Havana Special that had connecting ferry service to Havana. What stopped the trains? Much of the railroad was heavily damaged because of a Category 5 hurricane in 1935. Financially unable to rebuild the destroyed sections, it was sold to the state and a highway was built over the original bridge before said bridge was finally replaced with the current Seven Mile Bridge in 1982. The original Seven Mile Bridge remains standing as it's now part of a heritage rail trail.

As a Norwegian who has been to Florida twice and saw a man straight up grab and throw an alligator in the middle of the road, this is accurate.

Driving across the Florida Keys in a convertible is actually a great experience. Putting a highway (which is only 1 lane each way) across the archipelago makes perfect sense as most of the islands are pretty close to each other.

As a Cuban whose family on my mom's side first came to the NYC metro, then temporarily moved to Miami before moving back to NY where they had me because they hated the weather and no walkability, I can confirm this is accurate. Yup, unlike most Cubans, they left for NYC, and they arrived BEFORE the revolution because they didn't like Batista and his regime's actions. People only think of Miami when it comes to Cubans in this country, but the NYC metro is a historic center for the Cuban community. Union City, NJ, across the Hudson from Manhattan, is nicknamed Havana on the Hudson. And Manhattan itself was the home of Cuban freedom fighters like national hero José Martí before he returned to Cuba to fight (where he'd die in battle). In fact, NYC was actually where the Cuban flag was DESIGNED!

To honor NYC's place in Cuban history, the Cuban government gifted NYC with an equestrian statue of Martí that was dedicated in 1965 in Central Park. And unlike Miami, Cuban New Yorkers are left-wing (like Senator Bob Menendez and his son Representative Rob Menendez) because many came to the area before the revolution looking for jobs (like northern NJ's textile industries)
