I can relate to this so much! Going up and down from “aber dein Deutsch ist super” to “I don’t understand anything”, then acing an urgent conversation I cannot avoid with Hausverwaltung or der Arzt, back to “why am I even trying”?

This is so true... I had the same experience after I moved to Italy. I was waiting to get my hair done and I realized that my brain made the switch from translating, it was very cool!
