Elden Ring: 10 Optional Bosses You SHOULDN'T MISS

Elden Ring (PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S/One) is a massive game filled with multiple bosses you can skip or avoid in the open world. Here are some of our favorites.

10. Spirit-caller Snail - ROAD'S END CATACOMBS, found in eastern Liurnia south of the minor Erdtree

9. Starscourge Radahn - found in Redmane Castle, in the Southern part of Caelid

8. Godskin Apostle - Dominula, Windmill Village which is on the northern edge of the Altus Region

7. Patches - found in Murkwater cave in the center of Limgrave, look for a cave entrance in the ravine filled with skeletons

6. Mimic Tear - found in Nokron, which can only be accessed after defeating Starscourge Radahn and going down the giant hole in Limgrave formed by his comet, which is in South of Mistwood

5. Wormface - the guardian of the Minor Erdtree at the center of Altus in the forest area

4. Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella - Found by exploring the ainsel river region, which can be accessed in the Liurnia region from the Ainsel River Well north of the Liurnia Divine tower

3. Ancestor Spirit - found by lighting the fires at all of the monuments in the Siofra River area then going to Hallowhorn hall and interacting with the corpse. The area can be accessed from the Siofra River Well, which is found near the Minor Erdtree in Limgrave, in the mistwood forest.

2. Ryckard - Found in the Volcano Manor at the top of Mt. Gelmir, which is in the western part of Atlus. Can only be accessed if you agree to help Lady Tanith and complete the questline there, a secret door can be found in the first room to the right after you've made enough progress with the quest. Kill the people she wants you to kill and talk to everyone and it should unlock.

1. Astel - Found in the River of Rot, an area that can only be accessed by making a certain amount of progress in Ranni's Questline, which is too complicated to explain here -

BONUS

Malenia - Found in Miquella's Haligtree, a location that can only be reached by finding 2 parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion. 1 is found in Castle Sol in the Mountaintop of the Giants and one is in the Village of the Albinaurics, a town build under a mountain to the west in Liurnia. There's a villager disguised as a pot hiding there: attack them to reveal the ruse and talk to them to get 1 half of the haligtree secret medallion. When you have both you get an alternate option at the Grand Lift of Rold that takes you to the Consecrated Snowfield and eventually the Haligtree.

Fun fact: During Radhans fight you can summon lots of different NPCs to help you, one of them is Patches. When he is summoned he will literally realise what’s going on and return to his own world 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Fun fact about Radahn: he knew that he was going to become a big guy, I mean giant like. So he spent all his young days learning gravity magic so he can keep his frail horse by his side. And you can check his lore for this.

Quick note on #6 here. This boss will become an exact copy of you when you walk in. You can walk in wearing no armor and no weapons and then equip everything after he becomes you with no armor and no weapons. That said, the boss is usually fairly easy anyways since you are probably most familiar with your own weapons moveset and weaknesses above all else. Just thought that was cool.

Astel, Naturalborn of the Void is one of the best boss fights I’ve ever experienced in any game. The scenery, mechanics, unique attacks, and design all work perfectly well together. The weapon you can unlock after the fight makes it even more worthwhile. If you missed this one, it’s worth taking one last trip to the Lake of Rot to find it.

Mogh (lord of blood version) should be in this list, he is, I think, one of the best bosses in the game (maybe the best), the visuals, the music, the phase 2 transition the arena and the fight itself are great.

Its crazy that so many of the big trailer bosses are optional and some even really well hidden. I love that, really shows that From respects the player's ability to explore and seek out this content.

Aside from the Godrick soldier in the tutorial I feel that all the others are, if not very complicated, at least have cool designs. No boss I've fought so far seems extraneous, each one has a purpose. Love this game, top contender for best game of the year.

I actually felt guilty while fighting and then killing Regal Ancestor Spirit. It was a completely unexpected fight and got me right in the feels. Bit of a throwback to fighting Sif.

Fun Trick for Mimic Tear: Taking all your gear off, will allow you to fight it without it having gear, you can then re-equip everything and demolish it lmao

I actually felt bad after killing the Ancestor Spirit. I know it's stupid but I felt like I was hunting him rather than fighting. It was just defending itself. Loved that encounter!

Thanks to this video, I now know that Redmane Castle can apparently be EMPTY when you first arrive and not, as it was for me, a pretty brutal gauntlet of enemies culminating in that Misbegotten Warrior/Crucible Knight duo fight before even being able to access Radahn's fight.

Another optional boss that you shouldn't miss and didn't get added to the list is Mohg, lord of blood. His second phase make the fight tougher if you don't have enough flasks or that special crimson tear, and his theme music is amazing.
