Run System File Checker sfc /scannow Offline in Windows

Now and then we run into problems with our operating system and we need to do some repairs on the OS, this is where System File Checker is useful, it's a tool that lets you scan and check the integrity of all your Windows System Files, once its completed its scan it will repair corrupted or missing system operating system files. There will be times when you can't boot into your windows machine to run SFC /scannow to resolve your issues. That's where running it in recovery console or from a windows recovery CD is essential to getting your system back up and running again.
Just follow this video guide and hopefully your be back up and running again in no time.

To scan for a file use this code below, remember to change file you wish to scan.

To run a full scan use this command below.
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows

Also, I always get the message "indows resources found corrupt files but was unable to fix the problem.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\logs\CBS.log." and I have no idea what to do about it

Thanks Brian, you can also use a ERD disk and the SFS tool is part of the Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (MSDaRT). I have had better success with running the SFC scan offline rather than within Window's. Thank for all you work Brian, much appreciated.

Hi Gary, yeah I have a Multiboot Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (MSDaRT) with all versions on one USB I use all the time. But not everyone has these so I try and show what people would have, but i agree with what your saying.

Yep, you could use it for that, its common for windows files to become corrupt after removing malware.

Looks like this would be another good step to do after removing viruses. This is just in case critical Windows files became corrupted.

Yeah it comes in handy to repair corrupted files or missing files on none booting pc

Its not a virus removal tool, its for fixing missing or corrupt windows system files, but I guess if the rootkit was a system file then yes, it could work.
