The Below Zero void was actually terrifying. I remember coming to a fairly shallow slope, thinking it's just a new biome that finally goes way deep. Then the damn beakfish nibbled on my seatruck.

Subnautica has an extremely loyal fan base, it’s still such a good game

I think what's even scarier than the void, is that the fact, that the earth ocean, is vastly not only larger, but DEEPER, than the void itself

What i really like about Below Zero's void is that you can literally just listen to the music to figure out that it is void
a nice detail that warns the players that "you shouldn't go there anymore" just because of the song

I'm sure it's for an entirely different reason, but I like to think that the reason that the Ghost Leviathans stop chasing you after a while is because there's such a colossally humongous creature out there that the adult Ghosts fear, but the player is too small to be considered worthwhile prey, hence why it doesn't attack you. Considering how massive the void on planet 4545B is, it's not out of the realm of possibility

The void has always been fascinating to me- it serves as a terrifying place, a warning zone for the player to stay away from the game's edge. Yet, it's honestly such an interesting way to play with the border mechanics of the game.

The wounds on the void chelicerate probably originate from fights with ghost leviathans, which is a really cool detail that connects the two games.

I always wanted bigger leviathans and bigger, customisable submarines. Imagine the possibilities!

I remember one time after Below Zero came out on Xbox, I was in the Ice Worm area explorating in a worm tunnel and must have gotten hit by one on a ladder when my character just started levitating up and out of the tunnel, over the mountains, past the Ice Worm Test area and out into the white void.

One cool thing I discovered in Below Zero is that, in one specific area of the void, near the Northeast corner of the map, the biome for the Fabricator Caverns actually extends into the void. I was exploring the void while keeping close to the wall, when the water turned green all of the sudden, and the chelis quickly swam away. Eventually the music from the caverns began to play. I quickly plopped a scanner room down on the void's wall, and sure enough, you could se the terrain of the caverns through the void wall, and I even scanned some of the Shadow Leviathan's and could see them marked on my HUD while I was in the void, it was pretty cool

In all honesty, I wish they kept the farlands. It feels super uncanny and really just screams that you're not supposed to be there. I think maybe at the very end of the crater edge, instead of sending you back to your lifepod, the farlands would be there.

As a "gargantuan" fan of the Void biome, this Video is gonna be good!

Imagine if in the Tundra Void if you went out far enough it would start to blizzard and maybe you could start getting chased by ice worms. Another possibility though, now this one isn't as realistic it's more just a cool thought, it starts to blizzard and you can run into an unfrozen living version of the frozen leviathan.

I hope they make the void in the next game similar to how they were gonna do the “big nothing” in mad max, where essentially it goes on forever and procedurally generates places of interest for you to loot

I'd never travel to the tundra void. I'd be too worried that collision physics won't extend the whole way or that there are gaps and i will fall through it if I step in the wrong place. It happened too many times when I was trying to play the games on a rubbish laptop and kept falling through the ground when I travelled too quickly in a prawn suit, and it terrified me every time.

The biggest thing that I find more disturbing about the Void is that there may be more wrecks down in the deeper parts beyond the crater.

That alien gun was active for a substantial amount of time before the Aurora crash landed onto the planet, so who knows what’s down their in the Void…

Nice and comprehensive overview of the void. Definitely it's the most effectively terrifying part in Subnautica (at least the first one) for me. Not just the ghost leviathans, who are a sizable and effectively undefeatable threat, but also the idea that, no mater what, there's nothing you can do get past it. It's the true end, but no end at all - just an endless expanse. Particularly straight down, where there truly would be no escape from it. Endlessly increasing darkness and pressure as you get further from the sunlight, expanses of water that put entire planets to shame. It's easy to forget, immersed in the surface biomes and caves, but the idea that the map is just this colossal floating chunk of stone in a truly endless ocean is more terrifying than any leviathan could hope to be.
