My mother worked hard but she had all the weight on her shoulders. Everything Dave said is true. As a teacher, it's hard for our students in poverty to change when all they know is poverty and bad decision making from their parents. They have poor role models and they just can't envision a future past today.

That's not even to mention how bad it is for the kids to live in single parent households. The statistics for the kids growing up and having a good life with a mother and a father in the house is insanely staggering.

My guess is marriage is a commitment, and if you're the type to commit to anything long-term in general you will do better.
