After being addicted to intense caffeine doses you will start to pretend you can taste butter from grass.

For anyone that hasnt tried it but wants to, I suggest trying it sweet first or as mate cocido (in tea bags). This is usually how kids are introduced to it. The sweetness can balance out any bitterness and acidic taste the yerba naturally has, and it's a deep earthy tea. A little less grassy than green tea and more earthy. I like it in any of its ways now, but still prefer to add a bit of sugar to the water since I found it removes that acidity. Not a lot to make it sweet, just enough to neutralize it. Also, if the yerba is strong, I also suggest you let other people drink first until it's a little washed. Personally, I find the bitterness enjoyable but I hate the sourness/acid taste some yerbas have, so I do that if I dont like the brand.
You can also experiment by adding other stufd into it, I personally love it with chamomille.

There are a lot of weirdly contemptuous comments on this, but as someone who has no experience with the stuff, it sounds like the process of palette development that people go through for pretty much any kind of complex drink - wine, coffee, whiskey, they're all like this, where you start with simplistic tastes that become more complex over time.

Good on you for developing an interest in something that takes a sizable time investment to really understand.

After ten years of drinking mate, my favorite flavor note is that peanut butter smooth earthiness you get from a lot of uruguaya yerba.

This reminds me of League of Legends. When I first started the game all I felt was the bitterness of losing and the frustration of my friends leaving. After a few years that has all changed! Now that everyone who loved me has left, I notice the subtle nuances of broken champions and massive power creep. Tastes great!

I never tried mate, bought a gourd, a SS pour over kettle with thermostat to get the temperature right, and 1lb of mate la Merced mate to be exact. I absolutely loved it my first try. I've smoked cigars and drink spirits so when it comes to admiring something natural this is one of the best and staying on the list! Thank you Yerba mate lab!

I've been taking for 6 months now and you said the very reason that keeps me taking it: it's comforting
It leads us to a very healthy state of mind, besides reinvigorating

If I have to be conditioned to like something I don't think I wanna like it. I like the things I do because they hooked me from the start. I enjoy the music I do because the storytelling of Marty Robbins or the amazing riffs from Avenged Sevenfold or the meaningful guitar playing of Roy Buchanan caught me and kept me. I enjoy Souls games for the challenge, the lore, the bosses, and the music. I enjoyed assassin's creed because it had the best stories and open world and traversal mechanics I'd ever seen. I didn't have to go through some week long or multi week long process of going through tasting dirt to get to the point where I taste sweet dirt rather than normal dirt. Not trashing on this just saying I don't see an appeal to something you have to force yourself to like.

I’ve been drinking oil for 8 months, at the start it tasted like roomy, airy, spacy, Wally, cottony, and boney. But now I really taste the sensational notes of Nutty, milky sugary, Vanilla, and Oreo ICECREAM, but my favourite flavour is arguably the hint of mint adding some refreshments. 😊😊😊

I’m on day 4 of a daily mate. I’ll tell ya this, it was easier for me to get used to than black coffee. Thanks for introducing me to Cruz De Malta!
