If you are a fan of #starwars , you know that there has been an ongoing debate about weather or not #legends is better than #disney canon. But I think it is much simpler than one being better than the other. I enjoy some aspects of Disney Star Wars canon but it isn't MY Star Wars Canon.

Brian and Zach are stuck in the basement discussing Star Wars, Fantasy and reading comics. Send help, we have been down here for 2 years being forced to consume Star Wars content. Even the content we don't like. I've been down here reading the Dark Nest books. I'm being forced to read Troy Denning books. A fate worse than death.

Do people even read these channel descriptions anymore? Are we truly alone?

The more I read the EU, the more I fall in love with Star Wars. I cannot say the same about Disney SW.

Legends will always live on through the fans. It will never go away. Legends for most people IS Star Wars and there is no debate. Again legends forever :)

For me, Legends, although a diverse universe with so much variety, it all feels like one connecting, breathing universe. It feels tonally and narratively consistent, like there’s a hidden throughline connecting it all. Ironically, Disney’s canon, which was conceptually supposed to be a more streamlined and centrally controlled beast with a story group, and an actual roadmap, it feels incoherent. None of the stories feel like they could fit together into one continuity. In Legends, Dawn of the Jedi and Legacy bookend the timeline. One is 25, 000+ years before A New Hope, one is 130+ years after. But despite the completely different aesthetic and state of the galaxy, they both feel like they are in the same universe.

Then there’s the topic of quality. Both Legends and Canon vary greatly in quality. The key difference, however, is that most of Legends’ mishaps are forgotten novels and obscure comics. Things like the Crying Mountain from the Ewoks comics that EU haters love the bring up. Or Skippy the Jedi Droid (who was never even canon to the EU in the first place). In Disney’s canon, however, they flubbed up their main event. The sequels. Their mediocre stories come in the form of multi-million dollar TV productions for Disney+ and all their good stories are harder to find.

Then, the biggest deciding factor: style. Legends told so many wacky and weird stories. You can find pretty much everything in Legends. Zombies in Dark Troopers, a Vietnam-style story in Shatterpoint, a Goosebumps-style kids’ series in Galaxy of Fear, a gritty alien invasion story in New Jedi Order, Lovecraftian creatures like Abeloth or Mnggal-Mngall. Disney canon has some outliers but it’s mostly just classic Star Wars. They never branch out, they never take risks. It’s all pretty one-note, personally.

Gotta be the expanded universe for me. So many great stories (KOTOR and KOTOR 2 dawn of the Jedi comics Darth bane trilogy Darth Plageuis Thrawn trilogy rots novelization shatterpoint new Jedi order legacy comics) characters and ideas, and it really fleshed out the universe and made it grand, dense, vast and nuanced. The Disney “canon” by contrast is small shrinking the galaxy to only a handful of planets and isn’t nearly as memorable or creative.

I just started Heir to the Empire a week ago and seriously my love for Star Wars has been re-ignited.

Legends. I spent last year reading the new Jedi order and I’m currently reading legacy of the force.

Legends. The only silver lining of EU being closed off is that it is now a complete "story" meaning you can actually catch up with it 100% without worrying about new releases. It'd be a lot better if it was just all Canon but, disney.

Unfortunately, in 20 years time, there won't be someone like you, in their thirties, that is as much infatuated by Canon and you are by legend.
And that's the tragedy.

Bruh, anyone who compares legends and the disney myths would have to side with legends.

It would be cool to see legends stuff going out there, maybe some Old Republic movies or series following the likes of Satele Shan, Darth Malgus, Revan or even Valkorion. Not sure we will though.

Legends after the year 2000 was great. I love the books from Legacy, Darth Plagueis, and Darth Bane.

The part that pisses me off is remaking the originals was all Disney had to offer after decanonizing the eu. If they really had no creativity, they literally could've just put the eu on the screen and called it the new trilogy, and we would've been all for it.
