"Star Wars" was created by George Lucas, an American filmmaker and entrepreneur. The saga began with the release of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" in 1977. Set in a distant galaxy "a long time ago," the story follows the battle between the evil Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. The narrative revolves around characters like Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Darth Vader, exploring themes of heroism, redemption, and the struggle between good and evil. The franchise includes multiple films, TV series, novels, comics, and merchandise, making it one of the most significant and enduring cultural phenomena in modern entertainment history.

Original Trilogy (Episodes IV-VI)

**Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)**
- The galaxy is in turmoil as the tyrannical Galactic Empire, led by Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, dominates star systems. Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan obtains plans to the Empire's superweapon, the Death Star, and hides them in the droid R2-D2. The droid, along with C-3PO, ends up on the desert planet Tatooine. There, they are found by Luke Skywalker, who dreams of adventure beyond his homestead. With the help of Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and smuggler Han Solo, Luke rescues Princess Leia, destroys the Death Star, and begins his journey as a Jedi.

**Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)**
- The Rebel Alliance, now based on the ice planet Hoth, faces relentless pursuit by the Empire. Luke seeks training from Jedi Master Yoda on the planet Dagobah while Han, Leia, Chewbacca, and C-3PO evade capture by hiding in Cloud City, ruled by Han's old friend, Lando Calrissian. Darth Vader captures Luke, revealing himself as Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker. The film ends with Luke's hand severed and the revelation of his familial connection to Vader.

**Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)**
- Luke Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, leads a rescue mission to save Han Solo from the crime lord Jabba the Hutt. The Rebel Alliance plans to destroy the new Death Star, under construction above the forest moon of Endor. Luke confronts Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine on the Death Star, seeking to redeem his father. The Empire is ultimately defeated as Vader sacrifices himself to save Luke, fulfilling his destiny as the chosen one who brings balance to the Force.

Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I-III)

**Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)**
- Set decades before Episode IV, the Galactic Republic is in decline. Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi discover young Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine, believing him to be the prophesied Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force. Meanwhile, the Sith Lord Darth Sidious manipulates political unrest, using his apprentice Darth Maul to sow chaos. The film culminates in a battle where Qui-Gon is killed, and Anakin begins his training as a Jedi.

**Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)**
- Ten years after Episode I, tensions between the Galactic Republic and separatist factions lead to the outbreak of the Clone Wars. Anakin Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, and Padmé Amidala, former queen of Naboo, face growing feelings for each other as they uncover a conspiracy orchestrated by Darth Sidious to seize control of the Republic. The film ends with the revelation of a secret army of clones, setting the stage for the galaxy's transformation.

**Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)**
- The Clone Wars rage across the galaxy as Anakin Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, struggles with fear and attachment. Manipulated by Darth Sidious, Anakin falls to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader. He participates in the Jedi Purge, executing Order 66, which leads to the near-annihilation of the Jedi Order. Padmé dies after giving birth to twins, Luke and Leia, who are separated for their safety. The film ends with the birth of the Galactic Empire and the rise of Darth Vader as Emperor Palpatine's right hand.

These six films collectively tell the epic tale of the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker, the emergence of Luke Skywalker as a hero, and the overarching battle between good and evil in a galaxy far, far away.

Ask George now if he thinks the shows and movies are cannon.

It's not that the EU was considered Canon.

It's that Cathleen Kennedy came out and said they had zero framework, literally nothing to work with, and that they had to create these new stories from scratch.

An objective lie that disregards everything not made directly by Lucas or Lucas Films, even though said things were insanely popular and often very well thought out.

It's the sheer hubris of it all that insults the fans, not the fact that the EU wasn't canonized.

A big issue George had with the Legends continuity ironically now exists in Disney canon. He hated the idea of Sidious returning after episode 6

That doesnt mean George would consider the ton of nonsense that came after he left Star Wars canon

Dave Filoni literally retconned the Prequels with The Clone Wars. Go back and look up how many things from the Clone Wars multimedia initiative were changed in canon all because Filoni disregarded the EU & the Prequels. I don't think anyone should be listening to him about what used to be canon, because he'll tell you that George agreed with him on most things with the show which is not true

I believe the fans decides what is canon or not, to most of the fans legends is still canon and Disney is fan fiction.

its just a really weird thing to be saying from a guy who constantly keeps inserting references to the eu in his work

Then what was the point of making it …. It was made under his watch and he financially benefited from it so in a way he has ownership of it and opened a can a worms when he allowed people to make it

😂Yet he keeps stealing concepts and characters out of legend star wars and integrated it in his own canon

Everything before Disney fuck shit up was great as it was, including the legends books, comics and games. They are now more respected throughout the community than any of the shitty sequels and failing series Disney has been pumping out.

I want to enjoy what I like. If George believes the first six films are canon, then I agree. However, beyond that, I want to enjoy what makes me happy. Everything Disney released since their acquisition just makes me sad. The old EU was cool and mysterious.

Doesn't mean u have the right to ruin the great characters that were created in the EU
Ur not that good at telling stories Dave so don't think u can destroy story in the EU just to serve ur new disney series

George Lucas never treated the EU as canon; he treated it with Respect, and worked with creators to guide what was made (such as guiding Force Unleashed with certain ideas and limitations.) He also did things like bring Aayla Secura from the clone wars comics into E2&3 because he liked the character so much.
What he never did was steal from the EU and pretend he made it.

In my head the canon is this:
The Tales of the Jedi comics series
The Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
The Clone Wars (2002 - 2003 YES that one)
Revenge of the Sith
Rogue One (Im not a fan but I agree the did a good job with this)
A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
The Mandalorian (Im not a big fan but at least they create something new out side the original trilogy and not in between)
And finaly The Dark Horse comics from the Expanded Universe except for the Dark Empire storyline because it contradicts the prequels storyline of the "chose one"

I'd never thought of the European Union that way 😅

Dave Filoni is not strong with the force or intelligence but with diabetes. Legends is more canon than the slop he has made.

i think a lot of people view legends with rose tinted glasses. although i personally prefer legends, ive seen a LOT of people blindly just write off anything that isnt part of the eu just for being disney and just ignore all the really high quality novels and comics that have come out of it

Yes because it’s not like George Lucas said that the saga was the story of the father, the children and the grandchildren from the books. I think George made it very clear. One day he would say it’s a part of Star Wars the other day he would say he considers it a separate universe. lol poor Dave is being loop around like everyone else
