Don’t think too much- just be spontaneous. That was my guiding principle that resulted in the best experiences.

Good advise. Another thing about solo traveling is that you are more free to do what you want and have the chance to get to know yourself better when you are confronted with making descisions

I went to Thailand by myself for a month just before covid hit . I have to say i never felt like i was alone once . I always had someone to hang out with and if i wanted to be by myself that was ok too .

Great video. I traveled to Asia, South America, Australia, South Africa etc backpacking with the Lonely planet guide books. Before the internet. Fantastic memories. Now it's so easy. Get to a country, do a bit of research on your phone, and you off you go. Even made traveling in Japan easy. Brilliant.

Travelled solo in 2001-02. Went to lots of countries. The good thing back then people weren't glued to their phones, so it was much easier to talk with fellow travellers. Still in touch with many of them now.

Totally agree with the public transport, I went to Krakow last year, the train from the air port was easy enough, the tram trying to get back in to town after wandering too far... not so easy, but a complete blast!

Solo travel is the only way to go. Some good tips keis. I have had similar experience when going solo at times you feel out of your comfort zone but it's usually these times that great experiences happen and you meet new people. Thanks

02:22: for the food. And don't forget to add another 100 for the drink ;-)

I also travelled a lot with small groups of friends like one, two or three friends and this worked also, but you need to make sure beforehand, how things are being decided. We often had our basic plan and had booked most of the hotels in advance. So plan changes were limited and were basically reduced to "this evening I want to go to this bar or that disco, who wants to join me?" or needed to be discussed and agreed on (which often works, if your friends don't have too different interests).

However, being a solo traveler myself since many years I'd like to add one important advantage: being alone gives you all the freedom you might want and need. You can change your plans as you wish and just go with the flow. You can decide spontaneously where to go next, how long to stay and so on. Everything is totally up to you.
A disadvantage might be the emergency case (illness, accident, to be robbed) in which being alone is more exhausting or even dangerous.

Basically it is all about good excpectation management ;-)
