Elton John - Sixty Years On (1970) With Lyrics!

From the album "Elton John" in 1970. Recorded virtually live, Elton singing with the orchestra, at Trident Studios.

Bernie Taupin wrote the words with his grandfather in mind. Elton's original music, heard on demo and reflected in the early performances, was dominated by very active broken chords on the piano. On the album this was translated into a harp- and cello-dominated orchestra. Arranger Paul Buckmaster has expressed dissatisfaction with what he referred to as his "1930s horror movie score." Nevertheless, it is Buckmaster himself on cello and Skaila Kanga on harp.

What an angelic voice Elton had in his youth! And what a terrible price he had to pay for it ... .

Wow can't believe no one has commented on this song.
I use to listen to that at a child. I really love the live from Melbourne Australia version.
The lyrics are so beautiful.

I think it was 74 or 75 . i was in high school, stage crew. Heard this song a lot of times, working a water ballet show, doing spotlight.Lots of beautiful girls in bathing suits. It was sort of like living a dream. Long Beach, Ca.Wilson High School, never thought i would actually make it to 60+ years on. But here i am! On the you tube reminiscing.i had to comment just for you! Party on dude.

Love this song, I think it is one of Elton John's best recordings mainly for the fact that he doesn't sound american and doesn't seem to be putting on that Southern US drawl accent, in fact I would go as far to say that this is probably the closest we'll hear to his real singing voice.

Very nice picturing and background information, i love the first records of EJ, the ballads and arrangements - to me his essential music.

It starts with an attack from a very large hive of angry bees, before becoming as gentle as two swans floating by on a still mill pond on a sunny Hampton day.
