Hi Machiel, You're right, it is CCFL Vs LED but most people and manufacturers call them by the LCD or LED synonyms and as this is a basic guide meant to simplify things, this is what we went for.
Again, to simplify things we didn't go in to edge Vs full-array as both still have significant advantages over CCFL and have smaller zones than are possible than on CCFL.
We didn't talk about Plasma TVs as makers are starting to pull out of making them and most every-day TVs sold are either CCFL or LED.

Thanks for that. Do you know of any current TVs with CCFL backlighting?

The LG 32CS460 is a good example of a decent priced CCFL LCD.

Is this comparison correct? LED TVs are also LCD TVs. I think you're talking about CCFL LCD and LED-LCD TVs.LED TVs don't have many tiny LEDs, most moderns TV's are edge-lit which means the LEDs are on the edge of the screen. Full array LED TVs have up to a few hundred zones. Edge-lit LED LCD TVs do have clouding issues, so "only lighting up the parts that need it" is not true for most LED-LCD TVs.

I think they only real choice currently is between Plasma and Edge-lit LCD.

i'm worried that you say plasma is being phased out, i now have two 50 inch 1080p LG plasmas and love the contrast and viewing angle. something i've found lacking in LED and LCD displays both times i went to the store to compare :(
