We've All Been Duped by LED LCD's Input Lag vs OLED for Gaming - Here's the Truth [PROMOTED]

We explain why although the input lag of LED LCD TVs is similar to OLED's in [Game Mode], the actual latency when playing games is different due to the respective pixel response times of these two display technologies.

WARNING: This video contains flashing images, especially from 5:02 to 5:07, so please avoid watching if you're someone with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewing discretion is advised.

We used an oscilloscope + photodetector to measure the pixel response time, a slow-motion camera to demonstrate the real-world impact, as well as NVIDIA's LDAT (Latency Display Analysis Tool) device to measure the total end-to-end system latency.

The "Includes Paid Promotion" message in this video refers to the sponsorship by LG Display.

I've been gaming on an LG CX OLED for over a year and it's been fantastic with zero burn-in issues. Your video helped explain why I noticed in motion sequences, especially in games, the image appeared to stay sharper compared to my last TV which was an LED TV. Keep up the great work, love all the puns.

Did not expect the CG mid way through. Very good, appreciate all you do for the TV tech community.

Had my C1 about 6 months now and could never go back to LCD/LED. OLED just looks and feels much more premium compared to other TV technologies.

My man busted out a full oscilloscope for this 😳

The natural progression has been CRT - Plasma - OLED. After CRT, Plasma carried the torch as an emissive display with a fast response time and fantastic black levels. OLED was handed the baton and is also an emissive display with fast response time and infinite black levels. I was exclusively a Plasma supporter and have been watching/supporting OLED since 2008 when Sony launched a 15 inch OLED tv that cost $2500. I’ve been an OLED owner since 2017 (a B7, now have 2 C9’s - it was a crazy deal I couldn't pass up) and couldn’t be happier. Manufacturers can rebrand all they want (LED, SUHD, QLED, etc) but they were always just an LCD. Nothing wrong with those tvs but if you're serious about gaming, movie watching and your budget allows, there is no substitute for OLED.

OLED feels so quick. It almost feels as responsive as when I used to game on a box CRT monitor back in mid 2000s.

Guess I'll be saving up for an OLED TV for next year. Thanks Vincent for the great and informative videos as always!

I’ve always attributed how jarring 30fps felt in games to me getting more and more used to 60fps games on consoles. However, I also felt like 30fps felt much worse since I got my first OLED TV and now I wonder whether the lower pixel response time of LCDs actually helped to „smooth“ out the 30fps picture since the transitions were still going on while they’re already completed almost instantaneously on an OLED? If so, that’s a very interesting insight I wasn’t aware of – thanks for educating us once again!

Once you go Oled, you never go back. Now all we need is other manufacturers to have their gaming features on par with LG.

Outstanding work, but I was always co concerned about oled degrading over time, burn ins, and inconsistencies over the space of the screen.

Your videos are so helpful for people overwhelmed by all the tech in the TV space. I had no idea where to start, and 4 videos later I have one picked out

I had a feeling the Infinity Stones reference was coming when you did the snap analogy.

We just got 2 LG OLED C1's in the house, and my Gawd!!! What an incredible display. It feels like everything I play is running at higher graphical settings than when I play the same content on my nice Samsung LED LCD display. The jump in quality is insane!
