I find it irritating that the shadow moves at constant speed and doesn't stay exactly beneath the blue dot.

To calculate distance velocity must be multiplied by time. It should have been mentioned that dTheta = omega times dt. omega, angular velocity here is v/r = 1. so dTheta= dt.
