This video is part of a series created for the ARCHON skills workshop '3D landscape visualisation in Blender'.
Shortcuts for the BlenderGIS addon:
- ‘B’ to select area to zoom to
- ‘G’ to search a location
- ‘spacebar’ to switch layer
- ‘L’ to lock the view, while still enabling zooming to receive higher resolution tiles
- ‘CTRL’ and scroll to zoom without loading new tiles
- ‘E’ to export the current view to a new plane in Blender

Hello. Thanks for this video, it explains very well the process. I have one issue though. I am comparing measurements in Google Earth and the Blender GIS output and getting different numbers. I measure a surface in GE and it is 509.21 meters, in Blender it is 724.009meters. Would you know what is causing this difference? My Blender is set to Metric.

Any idea on how can we rotate the map before exporting? It would be more efficient for me to have a specific orientation of the basemap prior to exporting it.

With the L lock, and rolling the mouse wheel, I found it will export stubborn larger land masses, it just requires multiple presses of the E key. Likely one would benefit with more ram going for a 1 to 1 scale zoomed out too far. Curious what the largest texture you created from your exports. Thanks

Hi Thanks for the detail video. I have a question. Instead of open-source SRTM DEM data, is it possible to import any raster .tif file for working? Basically I have high resolution LiDAR survey data and wish to create a 3D model showing different slope class. Thanks in advance for addressing my question :)

Very helpful! understandable and thorough
Question: I understand the tiles and the zoom levels of the photo imagery. I notice that the height information from the Open Topography server is also tiled. Are the tiles - their size and resolution - linked? Can I get more height detail?
I need more height detail because I aim to model rather small regions.
Many thanks for your effort!

Wow, a very nice tutorial. I've just liked and subscribed to your channel.

I have several data points of floating air balloons in latitude, longitude, and altitude. Could you show how to plot these balloons as objects in the Blender GIS 3D map that you just created (assume the balloon coordinates are within the 3D map)? Thanks!

Thanks for this tutorial!
As far as I've noticed BlenderGIS does create a map based on the current size of the viewport window but what I would like to get is a perfect squared map. Do you know how to achieve this?

It says can not reach opentopography at the moment. I saw in the logs that the target router isn't accepting the connection. It says not allowed (Windows error 10061). I tried to see if the port is open but for that I need the IP which I don't have. What can I do?
