Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Birmingham says the actions of China are “dangerous” and “provocative”.

This comes after China called on the Philippines to stop its “provocative behaviour” in the South China Sea.

The Philippines has accused the Chinese Coast Guard of damaging one of its boats in disputed water.

“These confrontations have been occurring for a long time, but they’ve also been escalating in their frequency and their severity,” Mr Birmingham told Sky News Australia.

“The actions of China are dangerous, they’re provocative, and they’re unjustified.”

How can China claim it is their territory? It’s a long way from their coastline; on the other side, it is much closer to the Philippines.

Second Thomas Shoal, also known as Ayungin Shoal is only 194 km; 121 mi west of Palawan and more than 1000 km; 620 mi south of Hainan china, so it is not part of China, never was part of China. Even historically it wasn't China, a Chinese Junk only travels at about 5 mph, so it would take 5 days or more under good sail to make it there to start fishing, while Paraws (traditional filipino sailboats) travel at a speed of 20-30 km; 15 mph, so who historically fished the Avugin Shoals? I can tell you it wouldn't have been the Chinese. Sailing somewhere 8 hours to go fish before the days of refrigeration versus 5 days is a massive difference, the Second Thomas Shoal is and historically was part of the Philippines. The area is only called the South China Sea because of the British, they put incorrect names all over the map, so just because someone from London mislabeled something doesn't give anyone the right to claim it.

As a Filipino, I'm thankful for foreign media for showing this in their own programs. This will help more in showing to the world the true infromation of what is happening making it hard for China to make people believe in their blatant lies against the Philippines.
