When I plugged the A/C Pro into my 2007 Ford Fusion, the needle instantly went into the red, so I called A/C Pro to see what they suggest, here's what they had to say..

Your vehicle should be on & AC set to MAX Cool with the Fan on HIGH. If you do not do this the gauge will go into the red.

A/C Pro troubleshoot / troubleshooting | Ford Fusion AC not working

If your compressor is on and the gauge goes into the red, you have other issues and you should take your vehicle to a mechanic.

I'm an idiot...mine went straight to red because I forgot to turn the a/c on with the a/c button depressed (so no compressor). I followed your instructions after that and fixed it for less than $45. The mechanic wanted $200 just to "diagnose" the problem. I LOVE YouTube! Thanks Dude...it's just starting to warm up out here ;)

A little late to add a comment except for anyone else now watching this video with the same issue. The ac system has a kill switch. This is...if the refrigerant falls below a minimum amount, the switch turns the compressor off to protect the components. If there is no cold air coming out of your vents under max air settings, your system likely has no refrigerant and the compressor is off as well. If you stand at the front while someone turns the system on, and you hear no clicking from the compressor, this means the system is shut down. The clicking is the clutch engaging/starting the compressor. You easily can hear this sound from inside the car, usually when parked or sitting at a traffic light (Engine running of course, a/c on).

I ran into the same problem car is cooling fine. I ended up getting R134a manifold gauges, honestly best route. Also another way to tell if the compressor is running or “correct pressures” the suction side should be sweating

What if the compressor is on and working but it's in the red?

Make sure the compressor is running you might have run a jumper direct and bypass the presser switch to get your compressor to run so you can charge it

Your compressor will turn on once you start spraying some gas, it’s because it’s depleted it will automatically deactivate once you start to regas it watch your compressor will engage again

most of the time its the ac pressure switch that has went out a very cheap part that can be replaced easily with just your hand no mechanic or tools really needed. Not necessarily is it always the compressor that went out, had that problem with my car not too long ago searched youtube and found a guy who solved the compressor problem got a $22 ac pressure switch replaced the old with the new and it turned on and I was able to recharge it.

You need to see that compressor move in order to read that gauge accurately. If its not moving (compressor) then 1) you have a bad compressor or 2)your system does not have enough refrigerant to create enough pressure to start the compressor. you most put half the can in the low port so that it builds enough pressure to start the compressor. The instructions were very misleading because it says that if the compressor is not moving, to put half the can, but not to overload system. With no other tools, theres no way to tell how much is already in the system, or how much of the can is half. At least this is what happened in my situation. I'm sure there's hundreds of other things that can go wrong.

if this has Ben done to many times using the sealer or cans with oil it may be full of that and no room for the needed amount of charge...
