Sonic and knuckles is my favorite one. The reason they split Sonic 3 and Sonic and knuckles up, memory limitations. But, putting them together like that, just unlocked the full game.

Sonic Origins is fantastic. It has the first 4 Sonic games in one package, with 2 very needed fixes:
1. The option to remove the life limitation. With the ridiculous amount of trial and error with insta-kill moments, especially at the end of Sonic 2, having that limitation of lives with that little play-testing really hurt the experience in multiple old school games, and that unfortunately includes the original Sonic games.
2. You can retry bonus rounds. idk who had the idea of bonus rounds being just one try, but it really corrupted the completion quest. Fixing that in Sonic Origins was crucial for completionists.

As a Sonic fan from the start on Sega Genesis, I wasn't pleased when Sonic moved to Nintendo platforms because I refused to buy their consoles. But going back recently to play those Nintendon't only games, I gotta admit Sega did a great job with those games. And I agree, Sonic 2 is my favorite one.

The only thing I disagree with is that Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles should have been number 1 and Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (game) should have been number 5 other that good list.

I personally can never separate Sonic 3 from Sonic & Knuckles, because playing them as one game always felt like the only way anyone should experience them.

to me, those two together were peak Sonic until we got Mania
