The lack of love for Sonic Rush Adventure here is criminal. Building up the main island was so fun and rewarding. 3/4 of the vehicles were very fun to use. The exploration was great. The dialogue could skipped and you would still be directed where to go. Honestly amazing

Sonic advance 3 and rush are the best 2D sonic games to me. Love how the tricks keep the flow going and the team combination is really cool. Surpised it hasn't revisited. I love rush because tricks and the sheer quickness of memorising the stage plus the OST for both are heavenly.

Hold up. How can you say Sonic 3 has less level when you can just literally combine it with Sonic & Knuckles that literally give you the full game in itself because Sonic 3 and S&K cartridges work together. Hence why Sonic 3 and Knuckles exist especially in the Mega Collection.

I swear there's gonna be some people (kinda including me) that are a bit mad about how Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic 3 weren't included as 1 place in the list, as Sonic 3 and knuckles would probably be #2 on the list.

I would have included sonic 3 and knuckles as one game. To me that’s the best . I love the stage transitions and how all the gameplay builds off the other elements. One of my least favorite things about the special stages in mania is they stop the flow of gameplay to unlock stuff that is fun sure but doesn’t add to anything once you get back into the level. In sonic 3 and knuckles you get shields, rings and lives.

I was gonna comment “Where is Sonic Colors DS” but then I saw it in #4. Thank you Nathaniel Bandy for putting the only sonic game I’ve ever played in #4.

I think if you count Sonic 3 and Knuckles as one game, it's the best entry the series has to offer. The levels are well connected to each other which helps give off more of an adventure-type feel. The boss battles are the most creative and fun in the whole series to me, especially the Doomsday Zone which would lay the groundwork for how Super Sonic boss battles would be made for the series moving forward. The story is simple yet fun to follow, and the way how it was told without using dialogue was brilliant. And not to mention, I feel like Sonic 3&K is the only game where getting all 7 chaos emeralds actually feels worth it. Not only do you have the novelty of playing as Super Sonic, but you also unlock the true ending of the game.

In terms of core gameplay, Sonic 2 is without a doubt the best Sonic game ever made with its short, sleek level design and fast-paced gameplay. But in terms of everything else, Sonic 3&K provides the most fulfilling experience imo.

(Obviously this is excluding Sonic Mania, which is kinda unfair to compare with the rest of the "Classic" Sonic games considering that it was made decades after the original 2D games.)
