There is no shortage of people telling you that you don't need photoshop, and that it is too hard to learn... in this video i demonstrate how easy something like luminosity masks can be, even though everyone claims they are too difficult to spend time learning.

I'll just add, having bought a few of Nick's paid tutorials over the years, they are excellent, very easy to follow and unlock all kinds of tools and techniques like this. They are brilliant and will quickly and simply demystify Photoshop (and no he didn't ask me to say that). He is just a brilliant teacher and the production quality of his tutorials is excellent. Buying a paid tutorial is also a great way of saying thank you for all the amazing content, like this, that he posts for free. I think we, as subscribers, need to remember that. Thank you Nick. Genuinely one of the good guys.

Not only are your tutorials helpful and calming (as in you do such a good job walking us through your processes), they are also the best sounding tutorials on the planet! As an audio guy myself, I appreciate it.

Hey Nick, I really appreciate all that you do. The landscape world on YouTube wouldn’t be the same without you. Thank you!

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I really dig your overall positive and encouraging vibe you have in your tutorials. And even though I already know the info you presented here, I found the tutorial as inspiring as your photography. You're a top shelf voice on this platform, and I'm appreciative for everything you share.

Just like to say that I have used Photoshop for 20 odd years but have struggled using Lumenzia for the past year now. However, I have now learnt more in 2 days of watching Nick's videos with his excellent style of explanation and his slower pace! Thanks for a great platform and experience! Great voice too!!

Luminosity masks are such a game changer! I was definitely also quite hesitant to dive deeper into Photoshop, but tutorials like yours or Greg Benz make it so easy and understandable. Can't wait for more stuff like this Nick! Thanks!

Whatched lots of tutorials about luminosity masking and PS in general and must say you’re the only one out there, who gets to the point, raises the mist and explains things in simple, clear terms, so you can easily understand and incorporate that stuff into your editing. Other people - as you mentioned - kind of make it overtly confusing, to show you, how clever they are, who you will probably never get it. You’re the real dude, Tx!

I've watched literally hundreds of tutorials on editing and this one made the process of highlight recovery more easily understood as anything I've seen. The even better thing is that I now understand why Lightroom really doesn't do it the same way or as effectively. Outstanding Nick!

Clearest and easiest to follow tutorials out there. Been trying to figure this out from several other YouTubers, but it all ended up too complicated every time. This was ready and straight to the point

Nick you are such an advocate for the community and new photographers. Your channel is one of the best and I love your communication style.

I help with several photo groups, and it is heartening to watch an excellent teacher sharing skills openly and delivering information clearly and succinctly. Far too often information is held back for all the wrong reasons. Encouraging and supporting benefits all.
Thanks Nick.

"Learning this stuff is a lot of fun" because you make it real and simplify the process. Most everything I have learned about photoshop has been through your YouTube Channel and your tutorials. It has made all the difference in post processing a photo. Thank you for your authentic approach and the care you take to explain the details. Cheers from Texas.

Nick this is, without a doubt, the best introduction to luminosity masks and selections, I have ever seen. I learned to use them after buying Sean's, Greg's and your video courses so I am not new to this. But this video is the clearest presentation of why and how to make masks and selections. Bravo.

Dude! I very rarely comment but had to say this was one of the best explains of luminosity masks I’ve seen. Thank you! I am not familiar with Lumenza and I see Tony Kuiper’s panel has also evolved over the last decade. Cheers!

Nick I've never had anyone tell me that you don't need photoshop, I use Lightroom because it suits what I do. Photoshop is very daunting for someone at my age and there are very few people that can teach it correctly, if you check out how many people on you tube teach photoshop it's amazing, and all take different ways of doing that. This is what is confusing, one example, i watched several tutorials on how to use the Lasso Tool from many people and each person taught it a different way. That is why I find photoshop very daunting and confusing.

This is why you're my favorite Photographer on YouTube, your videos have been insanely helpful!

I have always felt your explanation of doing processing is the best out there, you make it easier for us novices to understand what to do!

Nick,
No one can do a tutorial like you on Youtube. I have bought some of your Tutorials and they are excellent. I plan on updating the masking tutorial that you now offer. Stay in good spirits and be well.

THANK YOU! I bought a luminosity mask panel a while ago for a project, and gave up on it because at the time it seemed to complicated. This quick explainer will get me going. Thank you

I follow plenty of great photography channels but I rarely feel as enthused and encouraged as when I watch your videos. I appreciate your honesty and transparency, you cut through the BS within the wider scene and I come away feeling like I've learned something new. I have certainly been daunted by PS but the LR tutorials never seem to quite achieve 'that look' so I'm going to give this a try now with some of my old favourites. Serious respect for your work. All the best, man.
