Hello Aluxers! What is something you thought would make you happy, but didn’t?

The #1 App Rich People Use To Optimize Their Lives!

Things I was taught to believe growing up that turned out to not be true:
-Success in the corporate world would make me happy
-You can't be happy if you don't have a lot of money
-society has to be perfectly equal economically for us all to be happy. Some people are just LAZY, the concept just doesn't work
On the other hand, things that surprisingly made me happy:
- A great marriage with no kids. I was worried I would regret not being a mother, 25 year later, very happy about that decision
- A solid education and interest in the arts and humanities...made life more meaningful and pleasurable
- Having intellectual hobbies
- Writing and publishing a book
- The right opportunities are better than money in the bank. If one has the right training and education to seize opportunities when they present themselves, one can reach the same goals as if you started with money. That was a HUGE surprise.

The problem we have is because Most people always taught that " you only need a good job to become rich " . These billionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't even know exists.

Q) What is something you fought would make you happy, but didn't? and which of our points do you disagree with?
&
A) I fought. helping everyone, with they problems. would makes me happy, until. I start to realize that a guy was disrespecting me in a mindful and disrespectful way. by saying no body do not care. while he was sucking his teeth at me. plus he wanted me to fight with him. and he wanted everyone to stop him and put him in his place. but i did not want to fight with him. plus i was in a line that have people that was waiting to go to the ATM. wile others do not stay one place on the line plus the devastating part is everyone see this guy is disrespecting me. and they did not say or do anything to the disrespectful guy while he was deliberately disrespecting me in a mindful way. from this day. I Start to do self-reflection in other to see if I am the problem, or if it is the other guy. and from that day. when I start to realize that i feel like everyone is evil, and selfish, and. the only way that will make me happy is if I stop caring about everyone. and the only way is for me is to focused on improving myself without telling anyone about myself. then this is what i am starting to see about the world to me. the world is a very scary place. it is constantly improving wile it is secretly and slowly damaging everting about you unless you are prepared to hit back against mother nature from destroying you. then you are ready to fight back against mother nature.

and the point I disagree with you is not retiring at an old age on (02:13 - The First Day Where You Never Have to Work Again) I feel like you are talking about the dumb things people is doing. however, you are not looking at the real life experience, of older people in real life.

I will give you a short example. joe Biden lose to Donald trump by forgetting everything or saying things that no one knows about. It almost feels like a lie however Joe Biden keep on forgetting every single time. Donald Trump and every one on CNN was really confused about what Joe Biden says to Donald Trump on CNN Donald Trump VS Joe Biden 2024 Speech. and also they had a point where Joe Biden call the Ukraine president Vladimir Putin.

The bigger the lie. The easier it is to believe. If you keep repeating it, it becomes the truth.

Settling down and having children in my 20s is what would’ve made the difference. Dating in 30s is absolute torture and I’m so sick of having to meet strangers just to realize they don’t want have the same interest in having children. Ferris Bueler reliving this crud over and over and over again. Life is not enjoyable when you have absolutely no unconditional love from a family

The problem with aging is that your friends start dying around you

The meaning of the word happiness has changed considerably over the last two or three centuries.

Regarding the life extension, I remembered a quote from ANNO 2205 - "Rejuvenators facilitate a corporate world, in which you indeed can hire a twenty something with thirty years of work experience."

Can't wait for that, honestly. No, seriously, scientists, doctors and other highly qualified proffesionals could benefit a lot from being active far longer. For example, Einstein worked pretty much until his death and wasn't able to convey everything, imagine if he could.

Oh, and let's not forget soldiers, 200 years old soldier with like 180 years of experience would truly be a terrifying thing to behold :D

Btw. The one big problem with that is lowering neuroplasticity with age, which causes slower learning, lower empathy and generally being "set in your ways".

Latest research actually shows happiness increases up to income of $500k per year, not $108k. Being rich is awesome. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying.

Depends on how the free time is spent. Hanging with people you love or reading a great book or having the time to pursue a passion is priceless

In some instances, accomplishment can be a little hollow. I sometimes crush a goal and it feels good for a bit, then it wears off, like it does when buy a material thing you’ve been wanting. The high fades and you think you need to accomplish something else.

I totally disagree with the figure of $108k being the amount where more won't bring anymore happiness - especially given the high cost of living now.

I've read articles saying that the figure is now around $225k

That #11...

I was burn and raised in Cleveland Ohio and got fed up. So I decided to move to Chicago.

My first 5 years here were bumpy af. I thought I had what I took to make it here. I did, but it took me a long time to get it.

Now that I've been here for about 13 years and I'm pushing 50, I wanna move to a smaller city. I wanna nice sized house and not pay so much for it like I would in Chicago. I want more bang for my buck. And I want to be in a much safer environment, most major cities don't offer that.

And as far as stuff...

I have decent clothes, a few nice-ish purses and shoes. But I don't need nor want Louis Vuitton or Hermes. A nice leather Liz Claiborne bag does the job.😂
