I'm from Ukraine, I'm 54, and I have been living in Ireland from October 2022. I started to study English in 1979, in primary school, in Soviet Union. I knew nothing in English after finished school. Then, in my life, I started learning English several times (5-7) with the same results. Only when I came to Ireland it has moved from the dead point. Thanks a lot for your and your colleagues for the good learning materials!!!!

For the first time I could understand 100% a video in english. I was thinking to myself: how is this possible? I think the reason was the speed of your speech. You don't speak very fast and your speech is clear. I think that's why I understood everything.

Basically, there are no people with natural-born talent, there are people who love what they do and who spent a lot of time mastering a particular skill, the only barrier is your mindset.

Grammar is not necessary to fall in love, enough if you can speak, but grammar is necessary to the ability of reading if you had received divorce letter.

I'm so glad I found your channel! You're a very good teacher because you don't teach - you help to learn! Everybody can talk about rules, grammatical structures and so on but not everybody can give real tips and recommendations for learning languages. Thanks a lot for your videos!

HI! I am an english teacher in Colombia. When I saw your video I said "another person selling things" I missjuged you and I am sorry. However, when you said that you knew how to play chess I said " this is the guy I'm learning from because since the beggining I could say you really had to study about what you were going to say on your videos. Thank you for making this video. It helped me alot. I am giving free english classes online to people who do not have a penny to learn and i was looking for strategies that are more accurate than all those theories that i know are good too. HOwever, I think this video boosted my neurons to think about new ideas.

I love the theory of the ‘affective filter’ when learning a second language. When I went to school, I couldn’t stand learning French and had no passion with the language but when I was introduced to Korean, I found my passion. Language is a passion and an art. I enjoy learning the constructs of Korean grammar but I love enjoy communicating with my Korean friends but focus less on grammar. I’m a firm believer in interaction to develop confidence in language production and comprehensible input to aid language acquisition. Thanks Christian for the great video.

Hi Christian! I couldn't resist watching this video as I had a feeling you'd be taking fluency in another direction. As a fellow English teaching colleague, I find your approach so refreshing. Even here on YouTube, I emphasize fostering community, helping people feel relaxed and open to improving, and try to avoid false promises. In the end, I believe anyone can become fluent if you're willing to put in the work and take action - that's how I became fluent in Spanish even after years of "knowing" what I needed to do. I also find the emphasis on "fluency secrets" quite frustrating - all of my discussions of fluency center around identifying your needs and goals. While I don't think selling courses is a bad thing - all education receives funding from somewhere - they are not THE answer, they are simply ONE answer. Thank you for being a voice of reason and wisdom for your community and setting high standards for our teaching community as well.
