i think it was meant to be like this from the start, when they are being taught the fundamentals of nen by Wing he casually mentions that it can happen that someone's nen changes due to trauma or sth like that, i think that is not something togashi said just for saying, from the get go it is weird that the ability of the main protagonist was a childish one as jan ken pon, i think that is due to show the growth of Gon manifested in his nen, and now that he matured he will have a different more mature nen too

I hope when Gon returns, his experiences and circumstances turned him into a specialist instead of an enhancer. I feel like we've already seen his peak as an enhancer and there wouldnt be much excitement in merely seeing him reach that level again.
