Hisoka to Gon be like: "You know what else has the properties of rubber and gum?"💀

The innocence of Gon and the fact he's growing is what he wants, that and he doesn't want Illumi's smoke yet. He still wants them both beaten down

I think people are overanalyzing this. In the Hunter exam, Gon is the only contestant who caught Hisoka off guard, & he did it not once, but twice. Hence why Hisoka wants to see how far Gon can go.

He wants to break their will before he kills them

Killua ain’t have much “hope” at the start, that’s why he’s more interested in Gon than Killua initially

I feel like it's cause Gon has more room to grow and get better, and Hisoka wants to see that happen, while Killua is a prodigy and good st everything

I personally think it's because Killua's a Zoldyck so Hisoka can't fight him as it's too risky for him right now, considering that would mean fighting the whole Zoldyck family. Besides, before Killua took out the needle there is no way Killua would have fought Hisoka, which Hisoka finds boring. Killua has been through more training since he was a child than Gon to be the Zoldyck family's heir; he has more battle IQ, more common sense & rationality, more knowledge, etc. but Gon's still *almost* just as powerful as Killua without any prior training. Gon lived in a small, isolated place full of nature; Whale Island. He learned & gained a lot of things such as his superhuman sense of smell, speed, taste, & eyesight. Gon being a quick learner, even mastering the art of hunting in a short amount of time in the Hunter exam, concealing his presence like a predator successfully to take Hisoka's badge, all of these things I mentioned.. he learned on his own. His willpower is strong, & he will do anything to get what he wants; examples would be his fight with Hanzo, dodgeball game, or his fight with Genthru where he sacrifices his own hands out of pride. Gon's very raw potential & strength, his simple mindset & never ending determination that thinks of solutions quickly in a situation of need, attracts Hisoka; & while Killua would be great to fight, Hisoka having already considered it while he was with Illumi, choosing to target Gon would be a better option for Hisoka & more enjoyable for him.

I am rewatching and I just finished the hunter exam arc and I was thinking about that too. When Netero asked Hisoka which one interests him the most he chose number 99 which happens to be Killua, I found that quite weird since he has shown a lot of interest towards pretty much every one out of our boys except for Killua and then suddenly he is interested in Killua ? But now that I think about it it makes sense, Killua is definitely much stronger than Gon pretty much up until the end (except for when Gon skips years lol) but one of Killua's most obvious traits is his cautiousness, his assassin training planted this in his brain "don't fight anyone stronger than you" "don't fight when victory isn't guaranteed" "you should always find a way to escape when facing people stronger than you", everyone who took the exam that year was weaker than Killua except for Hisoka, Illumi and Hanzo, he showed no fear whatsoever since he was definitely going to win no matter what. We didn't see a direct encounter between Killua and Hisoka in the hunter exam but Killua warned Gon a few times telling him to stay away from Hisoka or that he is a big threat and so on, if Killua had to face him he would have ran away immediately to save himself since he knows that he has no chance against him. Gon on the other hand is reckless, simple-minded and not much of an overthinker, he doesn't fear fighting people stronger than him and his ego doesn't allow him to give up or run away, he chose to help Leorio when Hisoka attacked him, he chose to get Hisoka's ID batch instead of getting 3 others, he didn't fear facing Hisoka who is definitely much stronger than him. That's probably what interests Hisoka the most since Gon is very similar to him, he loves fighting strong people even if his life is on the line, but of course Gon is a hundred times less creeoy than Hisoka lol. One other reason might be that Killua is Illumi's brother and he doesn't have time to fight Illumi after he kills Killua because he is still chasing after Chrollo.

i think hisoka likes gon more because he sees some of his own traits in gon

I know in the anime he says it’s cause their personalities are opposite and opposites attract. Hisoka fickle and deceitful while gon is sincer and earnest. He says something like that during their fight in heavens arena

I think the reason is because killua is basically mini-Illumi.Meanwhile Gon seemed like a wild card to him.

I don’t necessarily think hisoka is more interested in gon over killua I just think hisoka just didn’t want any smoke with illumi at the moment; however he was contemplating if he wanted to kill nanika to earn killua’s wrath or kill killua to make an enemy out of illumi.

"Why's Hisoka more interested in Gon than Killua?"

Cuz that's his type.
...

Also cuz Illumi's gonna beat his azz-

I Think it’s the fact that killua is so powerful already, and he probably doesn’t have that much more to gain. As well as killua doesn’t have that strong a will to begin with, as hisoka enjoys breaking the will of people. While gon is the complete opposite; he starts out strong, but very weak in comparison to almost everyone else. He grows a lot very fast, and have so much more potential compared to who we’ve met so far. He has a grounded and rooted will and spirit, to do what he deems right and just. Gon will be an excellent person to fight with later down the line, and his will, will be so much sweeter to break. And he’s a kid.

because hisoka's not dumb enough to try and kill his best friend/husband's little bro

Theres also the Illumi factor with Killua. Hisoka wants to fight strong people and wants to fight Gon at his full potential but at the same time he doesn't seem to actively want to fight Illumi. They have something of an alliance and what can very loosely be described as loyalty between them. Gon is also an unpolished diamond whereas Killua has already started to be polished by the point Hisoka meets them
