I just cried about my cat dying while he's sleeping next to me healthy. But just knowing that he won't be with me one day makes me feel terrible.

thanks so much for this, just hearing someone explain what happens has helped me identify my own symptoms of anticipatory grief and feel 'normal' and more acceptance.

I'm not even super young but my dad has ALS and I'm feeling this. It also exacerbated past unhealed trauma. Come to think of it the only time I've felt totally myself since he was diagnosed was during the two weeks I managed to kid myself he'd be one of the ones who lived 10 years. 8 months since diagnosis and I know that now not to be true.

I’ve felt this way before, worst feeling I have ever had in my entire life 🙁 I’m feeling better now though and the person who I grieved hasn’t even died yet so there’s that

Anticipatory grief is a very real phenomenon. Sadly, many people believe it is not real. But who is to say what is real for the grieving person? Only the grieving one knows what they feel. And there is no right timeline when we should grieve.

Grieving for someone who is still alive is the quickest way to heal. It fast tracks the mourning process

I couldn't help thinking of divorce. The loss of the entity of a marriage seems to parallel the loss felt with the loss of life. It is not meant to be but does often happen and is very painful.
