I know this video is several years old by now, but it's amazing what you're doing here on this channel. You saved me and my wife so much money and hassle on her 2011 Ford Escape 2.5L

It's great to find people like you on YouTube. People that are willing to assist and inform instead of hoarding the knowledge they have obtained over the years. I just want to keep my beloved Focus running, and this video helped me do just that. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

This video is a gem. So many comments verifying your tip works. I applied your tip to my 2008 Ford Fusion & it cranked right up. Thank you.

This was so helpful!  We were on our way to the dealer and to rent a car until the work...to the tune of approx. $700.00 was completed.  I am so glad that we took the time to view this first!  Thanks so much.

Well I'll be damned! I have a 2010 Fusion and it worked perfectly! My bf was convinced it was the starter, but I KNEW otherwise. You are a life saver!!

I've had this issue with a University-owned 2008 Ford Explorer. But most days it would start after a few tries. So, we didn't worry about it. Yesterday I was stuck in the hot sun far away from my office for almost an hour. It wouldn't start! Then I found your video and tried jiggling and pushing in the key. It worked!!! Thank you so much!!

My mother-in-laws 2004 sport trac would act completely normal but would not crank or turn over. I was trouble shooting it most of the day. Saw this video and figured I would go back outside one more time and see if this would work and BINGO, It fired right up. Thank you for taking the time to make videos that help out others.

I've been pushing the cylinder into the column on my 2011 escape for years. Thanks for the video.

I have this issue on my 2008 Focus. As a temp fix I've been periodically using plumber's tape (the white Teflon tape that goes on pipe threads) to wrap around the end of the cylinder that makes contact with the steering column portion. This increases the "bite" and allows the cylinder to engage the starting mechanism in the steering column as it should. This fix lasts for maybe 1-2 months at a time at which point I repeat the process. You may have to play around with how many times you wrap the cylinder with the Teflon tape but you'll find the sweet spot. It's extra sweet too because it's much cheaper and less of a hassle than it is to swap keys and all that jazz. Hope this helps!

YES! FordTechMakuloco, Thank you for the great tip! This is the issue with my 2004 Expedition. I doesn't start when its below freezing. I'm guessing at those temps, the metal has contracted just enough to not touch. It's 27 degrees and I just started the Expo by doing exactly what you did in this video. This is the 3rd video of yours that has helped me greatly. Godspeed, to you.

Thank you! I have this problem right now on my 2008 Escape. Watching your videos helps me to understand the problem and what is needed. They also help me to decide to fix it myself or get professional help when I see that it is above my to mention that I don't sound so ignorant when I do get professional help. Excellent information.

I do have one question: Which wears out first, the cylinder or the housing? Most videos show that replacing the housing fixes the problem.

I know this is an old video, but just did the push in trick on my son's 2010 Ford Fusion and it worked perfectly. So thanks for the video, just saved me a tow and fixing whatever the mechanic may have told us.

You can add 2007 Ford fusion to the list. I just bought this vehicle about 3 weeks ago and that was a very sinking feeling a few minutes ago when it when it wouldn't start. I'm glad I found your video.

Add 1999 Explorer to this list. Been trying to figure out a no crank issue and hit this vid. Gave it a try and vroom. Turn to crank, push in and wiggle. Thanks for saving me hours of troubleshooting the downstream end of the start circuit.
