YES!!! You can mix any Synthetic motor oil with Regular Conventional mineral motor oil.

This is a old Mechanics tale that started when Al Amatuzio started revolutionizing the motor oil industry back in the mid to late 1960's when he was the first to make 100% Synthetic Motor Oil, Synthetic Transmission Fluid & Synthetic Differential Lubricants.

Very informative Eben. I don't prefer to mix different motor oils. But it's good to know you can.

i recently had to mix about half a liter of amsoil synthetic 10w40 with Shell's AX7 " synthetic based" 10w40. the guy who worked my motor cycle only put in 3.2L ish of oil the engine needs 3.6L when i checked the dip stick it was at the min level. so topped up with the amsoil i had at home

I worked at a lube shop in college and always recommended an engine flush when switching from conventional to synthetic oil. Good info here! Thanks!

Comment can you mix synthetic with regular oil if you already have synthetic in it and you want to fill it up and add a quart of regular oil would that cause damage to your oil pump

What about 2 grade engine oil
..Like mixing 10w30 with 20w50

I know one downside of synthetic oil versus conventional oil is that when you go from conventional oil to synthetic there's a good chance that your engine will leak a lot more oil because synthetic is thinner than conventional

My fiancé’s Jeep had an oil change but were not sure which oil was used (synthetic vs non). Can I top off her oil with the synthetic oil I have or do I need to have her oil changed again? (It was just changed last month but we don’t remember the type of oil used as she is about a quart low.) Many thanks!

Hi. My motorcycle uses semi 10w40 oil. I have in a quart a mix of liqui moly, Motul and Wolf Belgium semi synthetic on excedent from previous bottles when changing oil. Can I use this tree brand mix with identical API and JASO specs? Thanks in advance..

My power steering uses ATF. Be careful! If you put anything elses in you'll ruin the pump. Read the owners manual.

Eben, my 2004 E46 330i BMW was short of about a quarter and a half of oil I accidentally use 3/4 qrtr of regular oil and filled up the remaining missing oil (3/4 quarter) with synthetic (I was using synthetic). Do you see any problem?

Yes you can. It’s then called SYNTHETIC BLEND.

I’ve mixed 10w40 semi synthetic and 5w30 semi synthetic together on my 2005 Nissan micra. Is that a problem or ok to do so.
