Germany's carmakers are pushing for cleaner and greener cars.
It's part of a wider strategy to combat climate change.
Some of the industry's biggest names are coming up with electric prototypes with models either in production or already on the road.
But how realistic is it to keep an electric car charged?
Al Jazeera's Dominic Kane reports from the heartland of Germany's vehicle-making industry, Stuttgart.

Put the rechargers at restaurants and fast-food outlets. Charge them to recharge and then credit that money back if they buy something at the restaurant.

Use DURACELL, lasting 2x than others :P

Charger at the lamppost is a brilliant idea.

Green energy but we still using fossil fuel for electric generation. We can call it totally green energy if we generate electricity through renewable source

It will reduce the number of polutan that we produce but still the electricity that we use generated from fossil so not really that green actually..

I'm not a fan of electric cars. I feel that they (scientists and researchers) say these cars are less on emissions in comparison to the internal combustion engines cars. So low air pollution and clean environment. But I also remember that the same people said electric cigarettes are less harmful than the tobacco ones who now say that electric cigarettes are more harmful than the tobacco ones. You see where I'm going.

And so we made it the size of a small truck, and the price of a small house, and it doesn't go far, but we'll make tons of money!

I can see it now. People fighting over lamp post because they think they are more deserving of recharging than others. Or pulling plugs to plug theirs in while cars sit unattended on the street recharging. Adding selfish self centered humans into things always will make things interesting.

Now that big brands are in the green car industry, we're gonna finally start seeing big news say good things about them.

realistically, if the average EV starts giving 200-300 miles as standard. people will queue for them. atm only Tesla provides that range and theyre just too expensive for the average household.

Until those cars starts changing themselves they're a waste of time and money. What if the electric grid goes down you'll be left stranded. Hybrids are a much better option.

So the EQC is a good start. Mercedes did well there more than every other car manufacturer.

1:51 yes we need to be more creative which means we have to get past Lithium In batteries yes when they came out about 30 years ago they were a step up from lead acid batteries but we have to renew research into wireless electricity that Nikola Tesla started back in 1899 but not his theories of Scalar waves radio waves that move straight out instead radiating like ripples in a pond but electronic devices that turn regular radio waves into useful power, yes I have heard of the inverse ratio which for every given distance the power drops by a given amount.

I keep a small petrol generator in my electric car for emergency sake

Wonder how many african people had to kill themselves to get the rare earth materials to make a single car battery

One older male professor says hydrogen is the way to go in the future..I'm in a country that does not yet have the infrastructure to charge electric cars, & one report was that once we do have that infrastructure electricity prices will go sky high & the prices are already high.
