Airbus To Launch New Aircraft?

Airbus is eyeing up the launch of a new aircraft to compliment its existing A220 series. Finding the optimal timing, however, still remains a challenge to ensure the success at launch is what it expects. Today, I explore the longstanding interest in the A220-500 as it has been dubbed and much more.

It’s great that Airbus listens to their customers.

It makes a lot of sense. If this goes forward, an operator will truly be able to cover their whole fleet from top to bottom with planes from the same manufacturer if they wanted to.

I think they should go for the -500. Great new channel logo by the way! 😁✈️👍

I'd also like to see Airbus adapt the A350/330NEO sharklet design for the A220

I hate the idea of a A220-500.
The A220-300 is a perfectly sized, perfectly balanced plane. Despite its small size it still offers the comfort of a larger aircraft, the boarding/unboarding process is super fast, you don't have to wait long for your luggage, etc. etc. Nothing but advantages. It's like being in a private jet for the price of a bus ticket.
Why would a larger, less comfortable version make us happy?

I work on both 787s and the Airbus, and I can confidently say the airbus is more comfortable to work on, im glad airbus is actually listening in those regards and hopefully the new Airbus has the comforts of the A220 but with the size of either the A321 neo or even the A350-900

I smile when I see that my ticket says A220. A new model would be great.

The biggest "elephant in the room" question: is Airbus willing to sacrifice A320neo sales to develop the A220-500? Can they convince the likes of American Airlines, JetBlue and United Airlines to buy the plane to replace their older A320 and 737-700/800 fleets?

Oh this is going to be intesting what is going to happend in the future. Great video Dan and can not wait for the next one

I like the 220 as you are less likely to get stuck in the middle seat

It absolutely is a good decision by Airbus to build this aircraft because it's is just an extension of the 220 family l. Meanwhile they can concentrate on a complete new aircraft, a replacement of the A321, or with other words, a brand new NMA. With that one in the pipeline, they are just insanely good prepared for the future: A220 for short and middle range flight, the A360 (or whatever you want to call this new plane) as a replacement of the A321 and in a stretched version a final replacement for the 757 and than finally the A350 as the most modern Long range aircraft on the market. It's just perfect :D
The only part missing is a Airbus cockpit in the A220, so that the pilots can easily change the aircraft's, but I think Airbus is aware of this.... :D

The A319/320 Killer, Good for Airbus.

Yep great they listen to their commercial customers………… what we need is manufactures to produce aircraft that best suit the journey of passengers. Seating arrangements such as 3-4-3 are not comfortable for passengers needing to go to the loo or stretch their legs. 2-4-2 arrangements optimise seat entry and egress as everyone is only one seat from an aisle. I think it was the A330-300??? That has the optimum seating for passengers, i personally seek out airlines operating wide body aircraft with these seat arrangements. From an emergency egress perspective 2-4-3 is a must have!
Thanks for the channel!

I heard that Airbus is working on an clean-sheet A320 successor. However, the problem is that just like A220 vs A319NEO, it would be a cannibalization problem. Therefore. They should let the A220 be "that clean sheet A320NEO successor"

I think that Airbus should go ahead with the Airbus A220-500

Airlines are demanding more range from the A220 and flight capability to access airports with shorter runways. Breeze is waiting to see how far this stretched A220-500 can fly. The standard A220-500 aircraft that Airbus should offer right out of the box is a 150-165 seat "A220-500LR" with 4, 000 nm range, a high-performance monster with a MTOW takeoff field length of less than 6, 000 feet. The existing engines of the A220 are huge (the size of RB211-535s). Airbus needs to take its time to figure out how to fit more fuel, payload and leverage a big boost in engine thrust.

I think it’s a good decision to further develop the 220. it’s basically the only new fuselage airbus has. And sticking to the old ones will just bring airbus to the same problems Boeing has with the 737. - also, if Boeing learned anything of the 737 desaster they might are deep in the development of newer more modern fuselages themself. Gonna be hard for airbus when they can’t offer anything equal.

It was always going to happen at some point. You just need to look at what's going on with A320 NEO orders. The most popular variant is the A321, ahead of the 320, with almost no orders for the 319 NEO variant. An A220-500 allows Airbus to head towards a larger A320NEO replacement, ranging from 190 up to 270 or so pax for a stretch variant. And that figures would be almost line ball with the 757-300 and proposed 797.

I can see that hopefully it will come out at the right time

My favorite aircraft and adding the 500 variant could be used for longer across oceans like NYC to London. Comfort and frugality
