The opening track to Al Hirt's 1963 album, "Honey in the Horn" and one of my all-time favorite performances of his.

I had the "honey in the horn" album, and I have liked Al Hirt's music since I was still in High School. That was so long ago, in fact 57 years ago, but for me, his music is timeless, and I still like to hear it-

This THE song for a trumpet player to measure by..Hirt's rendition is second to NONE and is as melodious, technical and heart wrenching as they come...A Masterpiece, , , .Berigan's version , although great, is left far far behind.Hirt had this in his head that great day in Nashville and I WISH I could have been in that studio to hear it in person..WOW, , ,

One of those melodies I still enjoy listening. It was played frequently on the radios when I was in my last year of High School.. Although so many things have changed since then, this timeless melody is still worth to listen and enjoy-

In the 60's Dad worked for Sara Lee in Chicago, as such he traveled to many cities. He came back from Nashville with a record of Al Hirts "Honey in the Horn".He saw Al play Nashville and he was blown away. I was a little guy then but I loved that album...every song. Boots Randolph, Chet Atkins and some others were on that album. One of my reference albums when I got into high end stereo. No one and I mean no one plays this song better than Al.Java and Cotton Candy are classics for the trumpet

This is a great recording. I want to have it played at my funeral so that it will give a little joy to those attending. It's in the New Orleans tradition: Good jazz at a funeral. Nothing sad. Just beauty.

Love the the way some of the lyrics are fitted in. Mr Hirt is the king of the horn.

Nice melody played with such skill that only Big Al Hirt had. The name of the album "Honey in the horn" could not have been better chosen as the tunes are all sweet and very nice to hear. Although now 55 years have passed it is still a great tune to hear.

Out of all the great trumpet players, Al had the sweetest sound of all. His interpretations, even when extremely technical remained beautifully phrased.

Beautiful melody which is so sweet and mellow sounding. I miss Big Al he had a talent I have not found elsewhere in anybody else. But fortunately I can still enjoy hearing his music.

This is an excellent melody really and a very nice one to hear and enjoy. I remember so many things and so much of the fun I had in my Senior Year in High School whenever I hear it. Only Big Al could have played this excellent tune as he did. Amazing performance really.

You are so very correct..Hirt ( jumbo) was and is the VERY BEST..This particular recording done in Nashville just blew me away as a kid.He was Numero Uno to me after listening to that - as a horn player I knew the real talent and it was all AL....Bunny Berigan set the standard for this song and Hirt just casually sped by him in trumpet one upsmanship..

Thank you so much for posting a nice clean recording of this wondeful tune. I think Hirt's magical interpretation skills are no better heard than in this recording.

The ONLY trumpet player in the whole wide World that I truly held/still hold in awe due to his pure gut-wrenching, un-synthesized-unaltered beautiful tone while playing alongside. RIP I miss you big buddy.
