More of the big man. 🙂 He put a lot into this excellent performance, and what a sound, especially with the chorus.

This video brings one of my old RCA Victor records to life, Al Hirt's Honey in the Horn album.

I think this is one of Hirt's best performances on the Sullivan show so far. Great playing! Love the chorus too! Having a chorus always adds a lot to a song, in my opinion.

Wonderful jazzy rendition of the Vernon Duke standard. The vocals and horn compliment one another brilliantly. A great, great arrangement, with Al Hirt at the top of his game.

I've been one of his biggest fans for over 50 years...I love his version from his "Honey in the Horn" album...watching this was fantastic...what a master of the instrument...!

He plays the pauses just as well as the notes, such perfect timing.

Brilliant. So happy to finally see these performances. I used to hear my dad tell me about seeing him on tv but by the time I was playing the trumpet in the late 70s, Al had practically been forgotten about. I would listen to the three or four records of Al's we had but just had to take it on faith that he had been somebody that had been a star trumpet player. I now know I was just surrounded by ignorant children and biased band directors. Thanks for posting these treasured clips!

From his hands-down greatest album, (IMHO)--Honey in the Horn.

This song - "I Can't Get Started" - might be at the very top of my list of least liked songs (although it's not as bad as an instrumental - same with "The 'In' Crowd").
