Al Hirt was one of the greatest N'Orleans trumpeters who ever played.
The Round Mound of Sound in the flesh..🥰

Fantastic playing aside, I've noticed on all his performances, his beautifully engraved LeBlanc trumpet -- I think it was gold-plated, too --- and he seemed to always play on a Jet-Tone mouthpiece -- and what a sound!

Al Hirt.was a terrific trumpet player. I rank him right up there with Doc Sevrenson Louis Armstrong and Herb Alpert.

What beautiful videos, thanks to the Ed Sullivan show and to all those who have kept these videos for so many years, it is admirable because today many remember and others of us know great artists of the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Thank you and hopefully you can share Latino artists who were on the Ed Sullivan show.

I think the tune they are playing is actually "Dear Old Southland, " not "Deep River." They are very closely related (if not nearly identical), but a Dixieland band would be more likely to be playing Dear Old Southland and not a traditional spiritual.
