3 Fishing Knots Everyone Should Know!

Today we're tying 3 knots every fisherman needs to know. The Palomar and San Diego Jam are both great knots for attaching hooks and lures to your line. The Blood Knot is an excellent knot for attaching your main line to your leader material. We have a few tricks we do to adapt each knot to our fishing style and we're sharing those with you too!

No matter what species of fish you pursue, these are extremely helpful knots. If you're a bass fisherman, they're the only knots you'll ever need to know! Are there other knots that work well? Of course! The downside of many other knots is they're either too difficult to tie for the average angler and/or you can't tell when they're tied incorrectly.

Below is a breakdown of the different lines that we use for all of our fishing needs, as well as a link to the video explaining what each line is for.

Braid...

Monofilament...

Fluorocarbon...

Shock Leader...

I'm so stoked on all your content!!!! I've been bass fishing for 30 years and thought I knew my stuff, then i watched my first Tactical Bassin segment and you guys blew my mind. Matt and Tim are by far the best fisherman I've encountered and have a natural ability to teach that's second to none. Thanks so much guys you've totally changed my life and only increased my love for fishing.

This is why I love this channel tying a FG knot in the boat with wind blowing and all the other things going on it's always been a aggravating task I will still tie the FG knot at home preparing to go fish but if I do have to tie a leader knot in the boat this blood knot is the way to go

You may never see this because the video is 3 years old but THANK YOU!! Some of the other braid to leader knots were challenging my patience. The blood knot is what I wanted, strong and easy.

All I use is the Palomar and the blood knot. For me the Palomar is so easy to tie and it's strong as hell. I love the blood knot because of the size, and it fits through my guides perfectly.

Thanks for the illustration. I've been tying the "san diego jam knot" for decades, but when I learned it, we called it the "Fishermans Bend knot". Same knot though. I've recently changed to the Palomar knot because it's just as strong IMO, and easier to tie, especially with my old eyes. Thanks again, guys!

My confidence knot and all around connection is a simplified SD jam knot that is more widely known as the hangman's noose. When tying, I draw the main line to scoot the knot toward the eye, then the tag end to cinch, and then a confidence pull again on the main, and then trim the tag. Always use plenty of spit, and check that all the loops have fully cinched. I've landed many a large limbs and saved many a lure on 6lb.
