Sultanate of Women in Ottoman Empire. From Hürrem Şah Sultan to Hatice Turhan sultan.
1)Haseki Hürrem Şah Sultan (1521-1558);She was legal wife of Sultan Süleyman Magnificent and mother of his 6 children.Mother of Sultan Selim II. Therefore, she was the founder of "Sultanate of Women" and she is the only haseki sultan lady who personally corresponded with the kings and has a personal seal.Moreover she was the first Haseki Sultan who built buildings on holy soil.Also she was called Roxelana in European countries.
2)(VALIDE)Mihrimah Sultan (Elder sister of Sultan Selim II and her mother was already dead when his younger brother ascended the throne, so he became the Valide sultan){1566-1574}
3)Valide Afife Nurbanu Sultan{1574-1583}.Legal wife of Sultan Selim II and mother of Sultan Murad III.
4)Valide Safiye Sultan {1595-1605}.Concubine of Sultan Murad III and mother of Sultan Mehmet III.
5)Validei Muazzama Mahpeyker Kösem Sultan (1623-1651).Legal wife of Sultan Ahmet I and mother of Sultan Murat IV and Sultan Ibrahim I.In addition, she is considered the Valide sultan, who also saw the rule of her grandson and was viceroy.
6)Valide Hatice Turhan Sultan (1648-1683).Wife of Sultan Ibrahim I and mother of Sultan Mehmet IV.Also she was called "Iron Lady " which was strict and kind-hearted sultana.Therefore, she is considered the only lady sultana who has been Valide sultana(Queen mother) for the longest time in Ottoman Empire.
