In a string of questionable moves lately, Square Enix sells many IPs and entire Studios but it's the *reason* they're doing that proves to be an awful decision.

Honestly? As a Deus Ex fan I'm incredibly happy about this news. Square Enix horribly mismanaged the IP and i hope whoever acquired it is planning to actually do something, anything meaningful with it

Imagine selling your entire western division to spend some money on NFT’s lmaoo 🤣
I truly hope their Japanese devs are safe from this future the CEO is interested in.

They need a severe shake-up at SE. Get rid of Matsuda at least, he's dragging the entire company down. He's not a competent CEO, only chasing trends he thinks will make the most money.

They aren't trimming the fat, they are throwing away some good steak 😐

I see SE becoming second Konami. Hope those studios will achieve better results that way, than with SE, which I can't stand for their lazy ports (so called remasters) of FFVIII and Chrono Cross. Eidos Montréal is one of the best teams they've sold, and also because of stupid decision to waste all their talent on catastrophic Avengers. Wish them the best of luck without sinking with SE.

Just when you thought you couldn't have any less faith in the future of Square Enix.

Then you remember that without Yoshi-P, this company would have killed itself a decade ago due to bad decisions like this.

Bad move from Square, but beneficial for literally everyone else.
I smiled ear to ear when I found out Deus Ex was free and Legacy of Kain was mentioned by name.

This CEO is really trying hard to burn Square to the ground. Great job Square Enix. NFT’s are melting their brains. We DO NOT WANT NFT’S. 🤦‍♂️

They weren't doing anything with them anyway, hopefully we'll get more games from these series.

Deus Ex and Tomb Raider are awesome franchises imo and the fact the SE just sold them on the cheap like they're nothing I think speaks volumes for how much SE even cares about games in general. I think that when Yuji Naka said that Square-enix doesn't value games, I think he was right about that. I think they're slowly turning into Konami.

This is very sad to hear...Before checking out the video, I thought the reasoning behind this decision was because Square wanted to focus on promoting even more their Japanese IPs...but after watching the video, I feel disappointed and defeated. I am not into thier Western IPs, but it nonetheless makes me sad especially for the fans. What is Square thinking nowadays?...🤦🏽‍♀️😔😔 Appreciate the news coverage NSP.💕💕

The bigger companies barely breaking even means that selling them is a good idea, and Gex, Legacy of Kain, and Thief are all cult classic franchises they’ve never done anything with, but the reasons for selling them are really, *really* stupid and bad. I don’t know if the NFT craze will even last long enough for a game entering development around the time Square Enix displayed interest to come out before it’s over.

This may be a good thing for the Franchises Square just sold. Embracer Group tends to not meddle with the development of the studios they own. On the other hand, I'm concerned for what happens with Square's up and coming games. FF14 and FF16 may be somewhat shielded by Yoshi-P's stance against over-monetization but for how long will that last? Will the next Kingdom Hearts be on the block-chain? Will any of these companies make NFT's actually work for the average game and if so, what's the cost going to be? As much as I want to continue to support some of the great games Square is capable of making, I also can't help but want to see these ridiculous investments blow up in their faces.

They sell studios to invest in NFT, here's how it goes... "in the end you won't own anything and you'll be happy" - world economic forum

What’s crazy is that NFTs are gonna be either illegal or super regulated in a few years

Frankly I'm happy with that change, these franchises for the most part where either ignored or poorly managed under the influence of Square Enix, so hopefully this change bumps more fresh blood into those franchises.

Outside of CBU3, SE seems consistent in making horrible choices lately... *sigh*

It'd be nice if they sold Xenogears back to Monolith like for real.

The writing was on the wall for this. They just don't get the same love the Japanese side does.

For me, if they spend that extra money doubling down on Japanese games it'd be great but the problem is... They want that NFT money. Investing in cloud is ok but NFT? Frick... Cygames will eventually replace Square Enix for me. All I care about from Square are games from Naoki Yoshida, Team Asano and the Dragon Quest team.

They're sounding a little clueless to me. I hope they manage to keep it together long enough to finish the FF7R series, but I have my doubts.
