Unfortunately the new CEO has a background in metaverse shit so it looks like Square Enix may very well be aiming to double down on BS.

Lately, we are having a string of CEOs getting replaced, in platforms like Youtube, the Movies Industry with Disney, and multiple gaming companies, and the most worrying part of all these changes is that the people that are replacing these spots do not look anything better than their predecessors, and in some cases could be even worse than them...

Imagine we're about to venture into a timeline where SQUEE no longer pursues within the video game industry, and KONAMI makes some ridiculous comeback, replaced by SQUEE as being among the most hated companies in the world. Imagine that scenario, how insane that sounds - Honestly? I can see that happening.

Considering the background of the new CEO, it’s almost like they knowingly choose not to do anything right

Now, I'm really scared for the well known franchises in being bastardised with greed over quality. This obsession with NFTs could damage the games we enjoyed from this company and perhaps fresh titles introduced.

The thing is the guardians of the Galaxy video game was actually really fun and well put together had no microtransactions or bad monetization and was a completely single player game with tons of content in detail and love put into it. It's everything that the new suicide squad and Marvel's avengers game should have been.

CEO getting the boot: "Good."
Replacement's name has Kiryu in it: "The Dragon of Dojima has come to save us."
Replacement could be potentially worse: "Oh. it's that imposter Kiryu, nevermind."

Odds are they are going to give the CEO severance bonuses despite bringing down shareholder confidence in the company.

I bought TimeSplitters 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect this weekend. Had never played them in my life. They were on sale for 2 bucks each in the Microsoft Store. Some of the most fun I've had playing games in a long time just by myself. Complete, tons of content (including map makers, my word) and not a single microtransaction, battle pass or season pass in sight. And NO NFTs.

Ironic that we’re talking about this on a website that just got its OWN NFT-obsessed CEO…

Ah Square once the pinnacle of Art, Story telling, and fun (loved FF7 of course) now just a good example of a reason not to play or have hope for future games. RIP golden years of gaming

I almost was like "Good now we can have a better CEO at Square Enix" but the new CEO has a background with Metaverse and now I'm like "Oh. So nothing changed".

Ironic that the CEO of Square was one of the bosses in Nier Automata

Honestly, I have about as much faith in Square Enix as EA as of late. I'll wait until we see the new guy actually make some positive moves before I celebrate anything. Not that I think the new guy is gonna do anything good based on his work history, but you never know for certain.

Something that's difficult for people outside of Japan to understand, is that most major companies missed many technological shifts and trends (smartphones being a major folly and ignored until iPhone had a grip on the market in this country), and most tech isn't even made here, anymore. Blockchain hype was delayed as well and worse, yet, is on the software side most developers are sub par compared to overseas counterparts to fuel any domestic development (think how great SE is as patching and supporting software after launch? any takers?).

That's why it was weird when the -verse hype and web3 was being touted by so many companies very shortly after the name change, despite not having the developer talent to create anything innovative with the tech, and just touting everything on the future gacha NFT hell they want to sell you.

There are uses for the tech, but we're still 10 years and a lot of scams away from any useful products or decent performing solutions that are mildly acceptable.
Edit: many of the IP sales seem silly (they are), but the name of the game these days is low effort, high profit. SE, Konami, and other companies here are deep in that and continuing to bleed out with underfunded and failed launched, and the execs are clearly out of touch, as broken down in this video

If I had a nickel for every time a major corporation replaced their bad CEO with someone potentially worse in the last month, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird (and concerning) that it happened twice.

Dear God….. Its like they don’t want a CEO who like games, but someone who can make quick scam site to scam out money. Was this done by some big shareholders like black rock or square enix own stupidity…………. I really worry about the DQ series now….

What the hell is with companies getting cryptobros as their new CEO? First YouTube and now SquareEnix, let’s hope it’s not going to be an on going thing (But good god, I won’t be surprised if Ubisoft also went this way)
