The best part still the reactions of everyone, the astronauts, NASA, the President and the Soviet Premiere, all of them going "you mean...all this...and we got beat...by NORTH FUCKING KOREA?!"

As a person of north korean descent, I love how they indeed did put on an effort to give him a North Korean accent. Its pretty decent.

Getting a gun pointed at them but laughed at the fact a North Korean is the first man on Mars

Truly embody the US and USSR rivalry lmao

I would have watched an entire 120 minute film on just this guy

Very well acted, well scripted, and a bit disappointed we didn't see more of him...

Jeez I can't imagine the psychological hell he had to endure while on Mars

I love how they brought back the last scene of the season two finale and connected it all. It came as such a shock to us that it was a North Korean astronaut that made it on Mars first. I guess that’s what they were planning.

Bro you can’t bury him in his spacesuit! Haven’t you read The Martian? You need every little thing you can get to work with to find a way to survive.

Possibly the most depressing landing on an foreign planet.
limited life support, broken communications, dead comrad, and no means of getting of that planet.

NK Space Agency: and that's the plan to get first to Mars
Lee: how we get back to Earth?
NK Space Agency: yes

They got there first. That’s all that matters to them. Bringing their astronauts back isn’t a priority. Quite horrifying to think about. It’s something NK would do if they wanted to win

You have to pity the poor guy's fate, but it's right out of the DPRK's playbook to catapult a breathing body at Mars to claim victory of "first" in complete contempt of the challenge being to send someone that can return home. Like sealing a person inside a cast iron sphere and dropping them in the Marianas Trench to be the first human to reach the bottom.

They better make a joke about this in s4.
Like an astronaut and and cosmonaut walk into a bar on Mars but a north Korean beat them to the good stuff

Even though it's kinda hard to believe that NK would be able to pull off a mission like that even with a stolen Soyuz design, this story is still super interesting! I wish we had seen more of Lee Jung-Gil in the final.

I’m astounded as to how his oxygen lasted that long, considering the minuscule size of the tiny capsule they arrived in. Was it a suicide mission? That thing was never going to get them back into orbit and fly them home again. Was the intention that they would both die on Mars? Or were they hoping to hitch a ride back to Earth when the Helios arrived? Regardless, I’m going to concede that this IS what North Korea would have indeed done - just to win the accolade of putting the first human on Mars.

Just imagine suceeding on becoming the first human being on Mars while 2 superpowers US and USSR still moon phase but nobody back home know about it.

Alternate History is just as effective as Futuristic Science Fiction because it makes you wish for a better world.

This is a great twist that needed much much more time. Like an entire episode dedicated just to him was desperately needed

the final was so fucking good what an amazing ending! I'm so shocked about the bombing tho

I hope for this dude’s sack that he gets the recognition of being the first man on Mars. It would suck if he didn’t. His been through enough garbage. And he lives in North Korea, so his life sucks more.
