When I learned that players are discovering 10 million new star systems in this game every year I thought, damn they'll all be discovered before I can discover a new one. Then I did the calculation. At that rate of discovery, it will take 32, 000 real years to discover every star system in Elite Dangerous.

One of the most beautiful, immersive and exciting games I've ever played. Even though the things you can do in this game are sometimes a bit repetitive, I'm very pleased with the possibilities overall.
First of all, the size of the game. I mean, how many games are out there which present you a fully explorable galaxy? And you can literally visit every single star system. Im never done with the game, every time I start it. I'm playing it since nearly 2 or 3 years and I've yet to see a black hole. I just started engineering a few weeks ago. I started bounty hunting a few weeks ago :D. Last month I called the Fuel Rats for the first time. I've visited a planet with a SRV for the first time a few months ago! I don't know what I'm doing in this game but keeping me busy for this long and I didn't even explore half of the main features of the game... This is a great game, Imo.
Can't wait for the Odyssey update. I'm gonna be a scavenger for the rest of the game

I've got over 6, 000 hours playing ED starting on the release on PS4, eventually switching to an Xbox and most recently swithing again to a pc.
There comes a point if one plays long enough they will have any and all the ships they deem nessasary, enginerred to the max for various purposes and have so many cr's they actually becomes worthless because there's no where to spend all of it. Even if one has a totaly tricked out Carrier.
At which point most will eventually reach what could be considered an END GAME; However in my case and many many many others who have an imagination even if it stired by other's playing the game. Can and will continue to play ED as I and many other have and do.
In the advent of the new DLC coming, it will bring back a lot of lets say retired cmdr's as well as new ones will start. As I've stated, I've got more than 6, 000 hours and plan even at my age (almost 72) to play an additonal 6, 000.

I have played this for about 300 hours, my biggest complaint really is that the tasks that pay the most usually require the least amount of skill and are the least exciting. Also you almost never run into other players; people often think that no-one is playing, but the truth is that the galaxy and even just the bubble is very very big.

I am a returning player. My first run was when the game launched. I really love it. It's all about setting your own goals (like I am going to upgrade this ship) and go for it. Part of the fun is checking the community info about what's the best way to reach your goals. There's a ton of info and tools out there. Sometimes I am planning and preparing for more then an hour before I even make my first move in the game and I love it. Other times when I don't feel like planning I just jump into my all purpose ship into the galaxy and see what encounters I will experience..

I own Elite Dangerous on both my PS4 and PC and while my recent PC crushes the graphics of the PS4, oh dear lord the sound of this game on my home theatre is amazing. It's so good that I specifically routed an active HDMI cable to my home theatre (my PC's within wireless reach) so I can play in 4K with the home theatre sound. I play with a controller on both systems (yeah, I know the purists swear by HOTAS and VR but my desk setup doesn't really allow it).

Elite is by far one of my favorite games. It is one I keep coming back to time and again.

Its hard to really grasp the idea until you actually dive deep into it, but just the other day I finally stepped up my courage and ventured out of the galactic core and started exploring nebulas and I can't even describe the feeling I had when, while scooping fuel I found a planet that hadn't been mapped by any player before... Like, to be the first to map it was such a rush, and it was such a small thing

Grinds in games is great. It makes those specific moments that much more rare, and therefore more impactful. Games where you spend all of your time in combat are just as grindy, but it's because the combat IS the grind. In this, it may take you a full hour+ to complete a mission, but completing missions can be the most satisfying experience ever. It's like watching one episode of The Expanse, where one culminating event is the focus of that session, rather than having a thousand immemorable moments because each moment is as legendary as the last. In Elite Dangerous, you may have to work. But you work for a grand reward.

Yes! And here is why. No grindy battle passes! Freedom to do whatever you want! Easy to take a break from and come back to it without missing out loads of grindy events or grindy limited time cosmetics which happens so often in other games where you are just stuck 24/7. Doesn't cost 60 bucks like other triple A games.
Elite is not just an ordinary space game, it is an experience! The most realistic simulation based space game.
There is a grind but it is optional, you are not forced to do it unless you make a goal for yourself.
