Worst MMO Ever? - Nodiatis

2nd Channel, classic game reviews:

#####

Nodiatis is a classic, retro fantasy MMORPG played on a tiled overworld and navigated around via screens, the combat is 1st person turn based with a gem system.

It's actually really, really deep.
If you look at the systems it has, it's actually really good...

I like this game. BUT...

It's let down heavily by its poor UI choices and excessive use of floating text popups, and its stupidly grindy early game combat.

Thank you to the Patreon Supporters and Twitch subs for keeping the channel alive.

After so many bad MMOs the bar was set so low this game was praised for being able to launch

I haven't logged in to Nodiatis for a couple weeks, and I just got an email from Glitchless telling me "(Name), it has been 2 weeks since your last Nodiatis communion. This is most regrettable." It then listed a bunch of things that are "good" about the game... but the very first one was this gem. "-Nodiatis was recently featured by a popular Youtuber, which has brought in a significant number of new players. The video can be found at (link to this video)" I really hope that means they'll actually listen to the problems you pointed out and even, dare I hope, fix some of them!

This game makes me ask "Why is this an MMO?" There's nothing about this game that is made better by being an MMO. This could have been a solid, fun old school RPG...

Hat's off to Kitteh for being a rad person and helping Josh.

The creator of this game promised a game called "Dawn" back in the day were he, this is not verbatim, scammed people for money for a promise of the most open MMO ever (Never happened). Later on this game came to be. There is many things to note about the owner of this game, and a big one that Josh doesn't know is that, Jeff breaks his own T&Cs and abuses his powers. Good example is, in this video a player gives Josh stuff, this is bannable, as Jeff doesn't want new players to get free things since he wants their money. Jeff ofcourse won't ban Kittehas it's an act of kindness and "he's gotta look good for all those thousands of new players", instead he brings out another "Patch" to prevent it from happening

The games integrity is gone. Only after this video came out and all these "thousands of new players" signed up has he made account sharing bannable, when I personally brought this issue up with him more than once and others have too. Never did he care; still doesn't.

I haven't played this game in years. In fact I was the original creator of the Wiki for this game (Jericko). I recently tried to get back into it to kill some time, and was so lost. Maybe I'll try it again... Lol

The thing about this entire video? The early game is actually the easiest and most in-depth. It only gets more grindy as you get to higher levels. There is no story beyond those little blurbs in each new town. And you got lucky with finding a nice person to help you. I've had times when I reached out to the community for help, only to find out that it was extremely toxic and even outright abusive at times.

If it wasn't tied down as an MMO, cleaned up and maybe not as intensely obtuse on mechanics, it could probably be a good old-fashioned adventure grind to play as.

A round of applause to Kitteh for getting Josh to the second town. If not for her, Josh would still be at the docks fishing and getting rat teeth and crab claws.

For perspective, 14, 970 hours is just under 2 years of ones life.

Rule number 9 from the nodiatus forums:

"9. Don't make or suggest making the game easier for new players. Nodiatis is not for the weak. An easy beginning makes for pathetic warriors, not worthy of the princess's communions"

I guess you're lucky that it offered any tutorial at all. 😅

When your game has an Alcoholic class, there is no other option

It is funny, in some games he can't find his skills in his spellbook for the first 3 hours, while here he somehow figured out the most overly complicated fucking skillsystem I have ever seen.

Now i get it. My Dad never quit roleplaying as an alcoholic. Thx Josh.

There's another entire system that you missed; the Virtues system, which isn't of much consequence because that entire system only does one thing: Allows you to trade epic-rarity gear on the auction house or player-to-player. Basically, each epic item has virtues attached to it, and while you can receive them and use them without the virtues, you need the virtues to trade them to other players. How do you get virtues? The cash shop.

Always look forward to the "out of ten." I've started ranking everything in my life using the Strife Structure.

This looks like an amazingly intricate game that I will never in my life have the time or patience to get into.

Josh: "An Angel or an Alcoholic, pretty big power difference, so you know which one to pick."
Me: "The alcoholic right? Did he present that as a question? It's the alcoholic."
Josh: "Of course the alcoholic, he has dragon breath."
Me: "My man!"

This was a real blast from the past to watch. I remember playing this in 2008 or something like that. It's an utterly bizarre game... And also quite interesting if you delve into the developer(s?) of the game. I get the impression it's one of those god-complex single person studios that have been developing the "game to end all games" since the mid-90's and somehow doesn't seem to understand how disconnected from the real world they are. And I don't mean out-of-touch, I mean genuinely disconnected from reality in a psychosis sort of way.
