I love Axolotls.
I had two of them until my male died last friday ;( now my female is left all alone. I'm sad...
He was the social type. When I got them she bit his hand off and only half of it grew back, so he had problems with swimming and staying balanced. He'd often swim around with his belly facing the top. But sadly there was nothing we could do to help him balance. Sometimes he'd swim up and stick his hand out of the water and let me put my finger in it and "pull" him through the whole fish tank. My female is always hiding, she doesn't like to have attention. It's very rare that you see her on the surface or in front of the panes. I think she suffers too, because in the last few days since he's gone she came up to the surface multiple times as if she was checking if he's really gone :(
RIP Speedy, I love you.

I have an axolotl myself, she’s living a healthy and happy life.
There are plenty of axolotls in the world, just not many left in the wild. 😢

I replied to someone’s comment earlier, but I think I’ll put it here, too, so others can see.
I am a herpetology hobbyist here to answer your questions. (glitter, sparkle, wow)
I’m like a genie but not as cool.
Anyway, so axolotls are amphibians, and can absorb things through their skin. This makes them useful for measuring pollution rates. Pollution rates are high right now, and we can tell because we’re getting major die-off in amphibians like axolotls. Axolotls are only found in one fresh water source in Mexico. The water source is badly polluted and new fish have been introduced to their waters, taking away food. A U.S. native called the Hellbender, which just looks like a big mud pile with eyeballs, is from parts of West Virginia (where I am lol) and can only be found in certain areas. They’re very rare and damming and environmental damages have increased their endangerment, when long ago these gentle giants were plentiful. Environmentalists all over the world are also concerned about the lack of tree frog calls in rainforests. Because there are increasingly less frogs, there aren’t as many calls during the breeding times.
Now, you’re probably wondering, “well golly jee wiz, Sunday. How in the world can I help?” Start small. Maybe pick up some trash, maybe donate to a conservation group, maybe even work on rehoming unwanted pets. Whatever your grove is. What do I recommend most, though? The simplest thing that has the biggest impact in my opinion is research. Knowledge is power. Learn about these wonderful creatures, it’s the least you can do.
