---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm Cristina, opera singer, singing teacher and speech pathologist. I have spent over a decade in the music industry as a performer, and I’ve done some pretty cool things as an opera singer, film vocalist, lyricist and jazz singer.

Here you'll find videos that deep-dive into artists that you adore. We'll unpack what makes a great and not so great vocal performance, and we'll also get into some voice tips and education about the science of the voice.

When Floor sang this she was already 13 songs into a 15 song set. She had been singing for well over an hour when she cranked this out.

Hello Cristina Russo ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.

About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.

Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):

" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "

I like it when vocal coaches start off singing parts along, and then end with "yeah, I can't do that".

That whole 2013 Wacken concert was absolute fire.
Probably their best live performance.

I love when vocal coaches are like, "I know what she's doing, I just don't know HOW she's doing it" 😅 the woman is a beast and is the best at what she does 😊

I love when people enjoy Ghost Love Score this much because us fans know it's just the BEGINNING. There's so many other songs that showcases not only Floor's but the entire bands absolute dominance in skill and entertainment.

Its always great to watch Opera singers discover Nightwish. You can almost hear the thoughts in their head when they get that look, "I could have gone a different way"

One of my life's greatest honors was seeing her sing this from 20 feet away...
Her autograph and tour shirts from 2016 remain on the wall.
Still tear up...

The orchestral parts are all composed by Tuomas (keyboards) and recorded with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The entire band leaves the stage during the interlude. It's to let the music speak for itself. And to take a minute for water and such.
Floor is Classically trained, though she favors metal over classical. You should react to her Phantom of the Opera performance on Beste Zangers. Her performance alongside Henk Poort is absolutely fantastic.

Floor is so incredibly versatile! Her range, her breath support/control, and how fast she can move from style to style, is amazing. Not to mention, her stage presence is perfect

Floor is an international metal treasure. But she's not the only one. There are some phenomenal opera / classical vocalists in symphonic metal, like Simone Simons of Epica, Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation, Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil, and many more besides.

I have listened to this song so many times and in particular this version due to watching a lot of reactions on it. Been a Nightwish fan since their early days, but that last note still gives me the tingles. What I love about seeing a first time reaction to this song is knowing what is coming when someone has a wow moment early on, it's a case of "just

Nightwish was the headline band at Wacken in 2013, so they were the last act of a four day festival, and Ghost Love Score was the 13th of 15 songs in the set. The crowd energy is amazing for being the end of the festival.
