The new MMO that didn't start out as an MMO

I hope the developers see this. There is something I think should change. One of the worst MMORPG sins that you can make is taking away players freedom to customize their characters. Connection to your character is an extremely important part of RPGS. By not being able to change you character eperance, you lose that connection. In Warframe it works because the warframes are like suits and we as an Operator or Drifter, are controlling them just like Iron Man chooses his suit for the next fight. But in a game like Wayfinder it doesn't work. I don't want to look like an edgy vampire girl just because she has cool abilities. It doesn't matter that I can put on accessories and change the color of my charcters armor because seeing three of the same characters in a mission completely breaks immersion and makes me feel disconnected. I have a way to change that without interfering with the monetization. Make a male and a female model for every character, after we select the gender we want to be, we should be able to change the character's skin color, eye color, add or remove a beard, change their hair, and so on. Of course, the abilities stay on that specific character. With that the general feel of that character will be the same. By giving us the freedom to customize, we will connect to our character way more. I will personally give this game a try. As a longtime Warframe player, Digital's Extreme involvement in Wayfinder makes me positive about this game. I want to see it succeed.

It's pretty simple how something like this would occur. They made a good game first, and an MMO second. Which I think is a promising attitude.

I would have imagine it probobly gestated as how phantasy star online isn't an "mmo" . I did the Wayfinder open ps5 beta a couple months back . it wasn't anywhere near finished with placeholder images for more than a couple things especially higher tiered, but the one thing they had down good is the combat. for all the placeholder images and shit, the most difficult part to develop a smooth fluid natural combat where skillful play can really make a difference, was already there, so I'm looking forward to it was kinda surprised to see the mass praise it got after that beta though honestly as, it definitely was near ready.

The game won't be out until "Late 2023", I think we can say with a fair assurance, that the global version of BP will be out well before that :) ... as to Wayfinder being an MMO, is it really an MMO when it'll be populated with copies of the same 6 characters? Lack of character customization (much less skill customization) makes it much more of a ARPG that has some multiplayer elements.

i signed up for this beta and i’m hoping to be able to give it a shot on console. looks pretty good. the only thing that i don’t like is the fact u can’t make a custom character but that’s fine this obviously wasn’t a game that had that in mind. i just hope it’s fun and kyros is fun

You can't make a game with some MMO social features without intending to. They intended to have it MMO-lite since conception. Before the source code.
