I neither like nor dislike this performance. Nothing really made it stand out. I didn't notice anything in this that I haven't seen in others. The camera angles were mediocre. The 2nd violins were barely shown (as usual)....which was a shame because Beethoven liked to pass the theme around and use the 2nd violins as a counterpoint to the 1st violins. It's really interesting watching how they both interact with the melody/harmony.
The best video I've seen for observing how the orchestra plays was a stationary camera pointed just at the orchestra....which could have only been improved if it was about 5 feet higher and encompassed the whole orchestra. I mean, it's fun to watch how specific orchestra members play...but the video operators should also try to follow the melody around where it's being played and zoom out at more complex parts. Perhaps they should show up to the last practice before the performance so they know what parts to follow.
If I didn't want to watch the instruments being played I'd just listen to the damn music.
