5 BENEFITS of the Sony FX3 vs FX6

Despite the Sony FX6 being a pricier and more "complete" camera in many regards, it is not so in every aspect. In fact, here are 5 places where the FX3 outperforms the Sony FX6.

I have both. They share similarities but they are entirely different cameras and serve different purposes. My FX-6 is a workhorse and serves on a tripod for my corporate video workflow. I’ve run an FX-6 on a V-Mount for a 12 hour corporate event. I wouldn’t be able to shoot on an FX-3 without bringing at least 11 NPZ-100 batteries for it or attaching a dummy battery to my v mount. That’s not its strength. The FX-3 shines when it comes to run and gun, handheld B-Roll (IBIS) and flying it off a gimbal.

It’s not apples to apples. You have to decide which camera best fits your workflow. I have the luxury of owning both now but I started my client work using the FX-3 as my A-Cam. Once business grew, I was able to move the FX-3 into my B-Cam and my FX-6 is my workhorse for still subjects and talking head interviews.

Don’t buy an FX-6 or an FX-3 if you don’t have a premeditated purpose for it. If I were just starting out and had a $4000 budget, I’d maximize the money and get an FX-30 and three aps-c lenses for the $4000 I was going to use to purchase one FX-3 and have no glass afterwards to mount on it. You don’t need the best gear, you need to be able to tell the best story. I started my video production business in 2020 with an A7III with 8 bit color and a 30 minute recording limit.

I own both, but I yet have to find out how to record 120 fps with audio on the FX3?! I can only choose 24, 29.97 and 59.94 fps in normal mode. Only in S&Q I have an option for 120 fps, but then again, no audio there.
Could you tell me how you do it? Thank you 🙂

I love both cameras, every creator would be happy with either one of them but if I had to choose FX6 without looking back!

At 5:03. There is a quick menu for frame rates. You don't have to go deep into the menu. A quick tap of the venue button will launch to quick menu on the touch screen.
Only two screen taps are required.

Good feedback. I believe Sony wants owners to have multiple cameras, so every camera has its use cases.

Hi John. I just got the FX6 and noticed more noise at 12800 than my FX3. Did you turn on noise suppression and did you choose low, medium, or high? Thanks for your time.

3 for me. Night pov walks is my niche. The 6 is a little plump for being on a gimbal for an hour.
Someone will say it later so I will say it first, too, the FX3 absolutely does have a mechanical shutter.

Your reasoning is so off, I’m not even going to begin to tell you where you’ve gone wrong. But just about every place. I’m not saying the FX3 is not better but your reasoning makes no sense.
