Hmm, so I’ve played a link to the past 4 times and was under the assumption that Links Uncle passed out at the beginning because the credits say he “recovered”. But apparently the canon is that he actually did DIE (leaving a corpse behind) and Link used the triforce the resurrect him at the end… my mistake!

I never realized you could see his ghost for a single frame

That is a really thoughtful Easter egg. I mean that is a good way to let you know how serious it is and to let you see that these soldiers aren't just a bunch of useless slouches

The reason you can see him for a single frame when you come back after exhausting his dialogue is because of the games instance based loading zones. When you come back, the game checks of hes supposed to be there. Since he's not, the games needs exactly 1 frame to remove him from the scene. Why they didn't remove him after you left instead of right when you come back, no one will ever know.

I didn’t realize this, pretty crazy. Also Link’s uncle dies in the beginning of ALTTP basically in game too

I really want the Zelda series to return to the dark tone of Majora’s Mask

The original version of Ocarina of Time also had red blood but was changed to green in later releases.

The way his body so smoothly slumps over after he dies is horrifyingly disturbing

🫡🫡🫡🫡 to that soldier doing his duty protecting not just the royal family, but the kingdom as well so that way Zelda could escape with Impa from Ganondorf’s clutches

There's this theory that that soldier is a holdover from a canceled alternative Castle Town, where everything would be ravaged (not as much as it is in the adult timeline) with wounded soldiers everywere, and this eventually got scraped

A nice theory at best I like to act like it's true because it's just sick

You can actually interact with both your uncle and the priest in ALTTP while they’re dying, and they both die right before Links eyes.

Rumor has it that this soldier is the same one you get the mask from in mm... Nobody could see him.

I never knew this, it's honestly crazy. Wonder if this was leftover from cut content or something. Like he speaks of Ganondorf's men but you never encounter any men working for Ganondorf unless he just means the regular enemies you encounter throughout the game.

Maybe it was an easter egg for wondering people who didn't go straight to the temple? Pretty cool, honestly.

I will forever think of that one PBG joke-

"Hey this Soldier is Dead! I just watched him Die! Hey this Soldier is Dead and I just watched him Die~"

First dead bodies are the Redeads seen in the Royal Family Tomb. Rotted, but dead.💀

My take on this: Its not really a "ghost" but memory (technical memory, not spiritual) of a scene that has not been overwritten yet since the last encounter with that soldier is him dying and the next time you come back there, the game unloads him since his scene is a one-timer.

Proof against my theory though is: The back alleys are a connected map with no loading inbetween. The soldier had to be unloaded the moment we stepped into the earlier sideway. Unless the 3-segmented back alley IS indeed a 3-segmented loading zone.
