Orient's Digital Watches: A Forgotten Gem

One of the niche areas of digital watch awesomeness is Orient Watch Co. - the other other Japanese watch brand, now so integrated into Seiko. However, not only does it have its own cool history which I'll briefly cover, but it has some absolutely class digital watches produced between 1975 and 1983. I cover the first watches like the 62000 , 64100, 66000 and 65000 family. Their foray into LED with Touchtron and Touchtron II , as well as Solar LED quartz. Ventures into solar with the 65800 series. As well as their ace calculator model and range of chronographs such as the Chrono deluxe. They did some fun music alarm - including one you could program and a fun memory alarm. I even cover some of the novelty watches from the 80s.

Honestly didn't know Orient made this many cool digital watches. That's awesome to find out. Wonder if they still make modern ones? Brilliant work with the video as always and like the new branding as well.

Your video sparked a strong curiosity in the orient watch line up especially with the digital ones and the very unique 1970s with the mechanical calendar I will be exploring more of the orients 👍👍👍

I’ve never seen most of these, thank you . Gotta love a company that symbolises the manufacturer, the AD and the customer in their logo ;)

Great stylish video and very interesting too 👍 Seeing different watch brands come and go with all the different models makes me think of life on earth with species appearing then eventually going extinct 🤔☺️

Great video yet again, thanks!

Orient still make digital, at least here in Brazil they offer some ana-digi watches. They also still make full on LCD watches and LED even, albeit not under their own brand, but rather under 2 local sub-brands called X Games and Lince (no idea if these brands ever existed in other countries). I have 5 X Games watches, 3 resin and 2 full stainless steel homages of the metal G-Shock squares. Very well made and a pleasure to wear. Now that I think about it, I also have 3 Orient quartz analogues, plus those 5 X Games, Orient makes up almost half of my collection!

BTW, both your Orients are beautiful! Makes me want a vintage digital, though my first would have to be a Casiotron.

Thanks again for the great video and info!

Awesome video. Where can I find that 64100 with black resin and gold faceplate?

Interesting. Were Orient watches actually distributed in the UK, or outside of Japan? Because I'd never heard of them before this video. I'm very familiar with Casio, Seiko, and Citizen LCD watches from the late 70s, and early 80s. BTW I'm happy I recently subscribed to your channel.

Wow these are so pricey now. Ugh. I was born in the early 70's and my parents were so rude to not buy me a stockpile of birth year watches 😆
