A good set of winter tires is always the right answer

There’s a reason big trucks use chains. They just work.

Thanks for the summary. I was intrigued by those tire socks. I read they were invented by a Scandinavian after seeing his grandma don socks to walk across the snowy pavement at their home.

I know this was a short, but most channels would take 40 minutes to share this same info and provide no additional information.
Much appreciated.

The wider cable straps are usually sold as short term solution to get your car unstuck, not as a tire chain replacement.

Best way to not get stuck is get snow tires and a second set of wheels.

As a Finn, absolutely no surprises there. The most important thing after having winter tyres (preferably studded) though is trying to avoid the wheels slipping on the surface. Slow acceleration, have ABS, no sharp turns etc.

Best way to not get stuck is drive slow and steady. Don’t gas it or brake heavily and you’re usually fine.

Snow socks are awesome as a get out of jail free thing to keep in the boot. You can't drive far on them, but the last time we had proper snow here, I had an Up! and drove round all the stuck 4x4s who thought they were magic snow machines. In the UK, with the little snow we get, they're perfect.

From what I saw in the video, although the cable ties suck, they did a good job of providing just enough traction to get you unstuck.

Here is a hint from someone who drives on ice and snow for 6-7 months a year. STOP FLOORING IT. Less power = more traction. Once you spin, you're doing nothing but making the situation worse. Same as slamming on the brakes... less is more. Use your head.

Also, make sure you install the chains on your drive wheels. Most mid-size cars and sedans will have that at the front, pickups and SUVs at the back.

thanks for doing this test. this is great to know!

“Didn’t improve braking” *literally smashes the brakes instead of feathering*

Also if youre stuck dealing with an open diff then your brakes are a great way to force both wheels to spin

It's not snow or ice but i used to regularly come out to my open diffed fwd sat in mud with up to an inch of standing water on top of it and letting off the clutch while tickling the brakes saved my ass a surprising amount of times

As someone who helps with plowing snow, we pull big gooseneck trailers for our equipment and chains are a MUST HAVE.

Nothing beats metal on ice, we even put studs in our skidsteer tracks for extra traction.

Use studded tires so you don't get stuck in snow! ⛄️❄️

This is a good shorts video. A good summary of different products, with pros and cons, without a cliffhanger, and the option to get more information by looking at the video If you want to. Good short man

That style of snow chain takes very little time to put on once you get some practice and they dont shred your fender well like the ladder chains.

Looking forward to reviews on the nokian wrg5s that just released.

Really interested to see how they compare vs the cross climate 2's. Im sure theyll be better on snow but I wonder if they'll be sporty enough in the wet/dry. Looking to use them as performance winters in a mild climate area.
