Pierre Bourdieu and Politics

Round table discussion on “Bourdieu and Politics” (December 22nd 6-8pm GMT+1) Gisèle Sapiro (CNRS, EHESS), Frédéric Lebaron (ENS Paris-Saclay), Franck Poupeau (CNRS) and Philip Golub (AUP). Organized and animated by Ivica Mladenovic (Cresppa, IFDT) and Zona Zaric (ENS Ulm, IFDT).

● The role of intellectuals in today’s world;
● The dismantling of institutions of the welfare state & the strengthening of neoliberalism;
● The recently published Dictionnaire international Bourdieu (already the bestselling encyclopedia and dictionary of sociology and ethnology on Amazon);
● Whether scientific work that produces scholarship can be separated from the commitment that consists in bringing the scholarship into the public sphere;
● The ways in which Bourdieu's critical sociology enables the dominated to act and escape their fate.
● The enduring political significance of Bourdieu’s oeuvre.
