a few years ago i had a roommate who was really into tinned fish, specifically anchovies. i was hanging around the edge of the kitchen one day, observing her tinned fish ritual, and she was like "you ever tried this?" and i said no and she made me a slice of toast with some anchovy on it and IT WAS SO GOOD. i support the tinned fish girlies. they know what's up.

Asian tinned fish is totally slept on. There's one with fried fish and black beans that is not just amazing straight over rice, but is often used as an ingredient as well. I dare not speak it's name to preserve its sanctity in the Asian community, but if you know, you know lol.

I keep emergency meals at work, and always have canned salmon on hand to add to my ochazuke kit.

When they cost $.75 and were called Sardines instead of “Tinned Fish” I loved them. Now the internet has made me despise them and they cost $20. Freaking Instagram and TikTok! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!😂

Love them but this is the most “we live in LA and don’t know how most of the country thinks” episode ever. 😂

I actually really like peppermint candy canes, but I wait until they are selling them for like 10 cents a box.

i think the culinary scene has a ton of irony in general. people will spend so much money to experience the memory of eating something that isn't common... because it was only available in households that had nothing else. Liver, snails, are first things that come to mind but surely more.

Somehow I seem to be in on trends unknowingly. About a year ago, I got on a kick of buying smoked salmon tins from Walmart as a snack with sourdough baguette slices. I go through about one or two a week. I didn't know "tinned fish" was a current thing. The reason I know of "tinned fish" is not current trends. My parents used to buy tinned smoked oysters and smoked trout back in the 1970s for hors d'oerves at cocktail parties. They also use to make sardine sandwiches with chopped onions and chilies. So I've always seen tinned fish as a snack item. I wish these guys had delved more into WHY this is currently a trend.

5:30 I have to disagree w Josh here, yes the “trend” is aesthetic but a lot of ppl are becoming more invested in eating better/more protein (it’s an alternative to the cottage cheese protein craze or just eating eggs and bars/powders)

Potted meats becoming popular is certainly doable. Look at how SPAM has a following now!

In Austria, I can buy tins of Nuri in most supermarkets for the equivalent of $4. The prices for tinned fish in the US seem absolutely ridiculous. $11? $35 per can in a restaurant? Nuts.

Coal Chamber and Snot both rule. RIP Lynn Strait.

Sardines and Anchovies used to be one of my Grandpa's favorite snacks while he served in World War 2, he was in the Navy, him and the crew men always got the fish around in the bunkers

Tuna is my favourite and least favourite meat. Tuna steaks are amazing, but the grey mush in tins is horrendous

I think this is just a California thing. Tinned fish is just tinned fish

Ruby chocolate deserves more attention than just being called white chocolate with stuff in it- its the perfect middle ground with subtle cacao flavor, also think the citric acid they add to it works really well bringing out the frutiness of the less processed cocoa bean
