10 Cheapest Places to live in California.

Buying a house can be hard. If you are thinking about California and don't need to be in one of the major cities, this list is for you.
Nobody wants a giant mortgage but in most of California, that is what you are going to get.

If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. Most of these videos are made to help people who are thinking about relocating, looking for real estate, or just wanting to learn about the United States. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. But, most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows, and a bunch of smoke up your skirt. They won't tell you about crime, poverty, bail bondsmen, or insurance you'll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, when it still was a farming and ranch suburb of L.A., in Van Nuys. I always wanted to live in Santa Monica or Malibu when I grew up. Never got rich, but, I made it to the beach. I’ve lived in Ventura, CA for 45 years now. I love it here.

Modesto does not suck and this is coming from someone that was born and raised in SF, I had to come and live way out here to be able to afford a home. We live in a really nice neighborhood no crime if at all. The neighbors for the most part all say hi and are extremely helpful and nice. They have some good restaurants as well. Sure I miss the City I grew up in and felt sad that I couldn’t finish raising my kids there, but SF is not like it was before. It’s turned into a dump unfortunately.

I LOVE living in CA! I am a native. I have lived in other states but would not trade any for CA, especially near our beaches. CA politics suck right now but I see that changing. I love CA bc we have the BEST of all worlds; mountains are close to ski, lakes are close, fishing, surfing, anything we want is an hour or less or at our fingertips. I love the people (most). We have the low property tax at just over 1% but our housing costs are getting out of sight. Our cost of living is high but our wages are generally higher than most states, too. I love that we have year round great weather..where I live it goes between 70 to 78 degrees which means I can go outside 24/7. There are very little bugs in most areas. No humidity or tornados. Yes, once in a blue moon we have small earthquakes usually not causing damage. We are not swallowed up in earthquakes! Most are mild rumbles that last a couple of minutes. . I will take that compared to any other disaster or snow shoveling. Over the years I have discovered what ever CA town I am in, there is always a way to live there within your means. Pretty nice living. I will stay.

Cheap and California shouldn't belong in the same sentence

To everyone commenting: He said they were the cheapest, not the nicest. BIG DIFFERENCE.

All these cities have one thing in common: HOT HOT HOT!. California is just a giant toaster oven during the summer unless you live on the coast or in high in the mountains.

I moved up north to Chico from L.A. county in 2006 and it was pretty easy going and affordable, with fun nightlife. Then, after the Paradise fire, 35, 000 came down the hill and 25, 000 stayed, creating an overnight explosion growth. Paradise was not the only wildfire and it got pretty tough if you were looking for a place to live. Even more people moved to Chico. Things have settled a bit, but Chico went from pretty little town to unaffordable smog city. Too bad, it used to be an awesome place.

Most of these towns are armpits. Would never live in any of them. Born and raised in California and things are getting worse. All my vacations are out of state for sure.

I live in Alturas! The train does still run through here. It’s nice and quiet and I LOVE living here! The crime rate is fairly low and we can go to Oregon, Redding and Reno which are all approximately 2-3 1/2 hours away for major shopping

Hey Briggs, Love your videos but I have a suggestion. It would be helpful if you would show a quick state map that would pinpoint the locations of the towns you review and mention the counties. Hope you have a great 2023. Thanks.

What the title should be: “Do you wanna live in the middle of now where in California”

Born and raised in Merced, also a Realtor that mainly sells in Merced Ca. There are nice areas and of course bad areas. It’s honestly not bad like how everyone makes it out to be. All of our new build homes are being bought my Bay Area investors, our city is growing and blooming. We have a big community of UC students from LA & Bay Area. There’s not much to do but we’re close to everything

It's nice to see a positive video about California, even though I could never live in any of these places. :)

My Susanville story is that years ago in the 60’s I went there as part of a college choir tour and our bus driver decided to park the bus right on main street which involved parallel parking the bus. As it happened it was right in front of a bar and apparently that was the most excitement in that town for a while because the bar emptied out to watch. It was great fun. 😃
